General Manager, Thunderbird Lodge
Location: International Falls, Minnesota
Position Overview: The Thunderbird Lodge, a premier resort located in the scenic surroundings of International Falls, Minnesota, is seeking an experienced and efficient General Manager. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the lodge's operations, ensuring an exceptional guest experience, and driving the overall success and profitability of the property.

Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Management:
- Provide strong leadership to the lodge's staff, fostering a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
- Manage all operational aspects of the lodge, including front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, food and beverage, and guest services.
- Ensure that all departments operate efficiently and in alignment with the lodge's standards and goals.
- Provide monthly reporting to ownership regarding operations, FOH, back office, staffing, lodging, and restaurant results and concerns.
- Guest Experience:
- Uphold the highest standards of guest service, ensuring that every guest has a memorable and positive experience at the lodge.
- Handle guest complaints and feedback professionally, implementing solutions that enhance guest satisfaction.
- Continuously evaluate and improve service offerings to meet and exceed guest expectations.
- Financial Management:
- Provide input into the annual budget, ensuring that financial targets are met and expenses are controlled.
- Analyze monthly financial reports and key performance indicators (KPIs) to collaborate with the owners to make informed decisions and implement strategies that drive profitability.
- Identify opportunities for revenue growth, including developing packages, promotions, and partnerships.
- Operational Efficiency:
- Oversee property maintenance, ensuring that the lodge and its facilities are well-maintained, safe, and comply with all health and safety regulations.
- Working with managers, oversee inventory, purchasing, and vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Update, implement and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent and efficient operations.
- Marketing & Sales:
- Collaborate with the owners and designated individuals to develop and execute marketing and sales strategies that attract new guests and retain existing ones.
- Build and maintain relationships with fishing guides, local businesses, tourism boards, and community organizations to enhance the lodge's reputation and visibility.
- Utilize social media, online platforms, and other marketing channels to promote the lodge and its offerings.
- Human Resources:
- Working with managers, recruit, train, and retain a high-performing team, ensuring that all staff members are aligned with the lodge's values and standards.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing feedback, coaching, and development opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all employment laws and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience (2 years or more) as a General Manager or similar leadership role in the hospitality industry, preferably in a resort or lodge setting.
- Strong understanding of hotel management best practices, including guest services, restaurant management, and operational efficiency.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities, with a customer-focused mindset.
- Financial understanding, with experience managing budgets, analyzing financial statements, and driving profitability is preferred.
- Knowledge of local and regional market trends and customer preferences.
- Proficiency in hotel management software and systems (rezStream, Aloha, and QuickBooks a plus)
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by the nature of the business.
- Pertinent degree(s) in Hospitality / Restaurant Management a plus.
- Love of the outdoors, fishing, and the Northwoods is ideal.
