Intern / Registered SUD Counselor ( Work from Home)
Job Description
JOB Summary:
DSAP will provide training and internship support for individuals seeking to become certified as an SUD counselor. Applicant will be initially trained then expected to solely facilitate SUD group, education, individual counseling sessions, enrollment sessions in a manner that promotes and supports program participants understanding of high-risk involvement with use of substances, and suggest methods to reduce the negative impact of high risk behaviors.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Facilitate group sessions to support the reduction of the negative impact of substance use disorder, working with clients in various stages of SUD including non-SUD clients that have been charged or convicted of driving under the influence. Work with program participant to reduce risks and recidivism of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or other drugs while assessing the need for additional SUD services.
Completes case management, including the maintenance of program participant files, group attendance rosters, and group notes using electronic files.
Have the skillset to use multiple PC applications including Zoom, MS PowerPoint, Client Database while supporting participants with barriers to e-signatures access.
During individual sessions monitors program participant payment history, addressing balances, barriers to program completion and progress with the reduction of substance use.
Dismiss program participant when appropriate in accordance with Title Nine Regulations.
Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalency
Pursuing education in SUD Counselor field and / or is currently registered to become certified within 5 years of initial registration.
Also accepting SUD Counselor Certification in good standing with the three certifying agencies in California
Certification/License:
Registered or Certified AOD / SUD Counselor in good standing with certifying agencies in the State of California.
Experience:
Experience with public speaking and facilitating discussion in a group setting.
Presenting educational material via virtual / remote services on Zoom.
Currently registered with one of the three certifying agencies in California.
Ability to case manage client records electronically
Ability to support and counsel individuals with SUD issues, seek referrals for other services and provide follow up services as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred not required
Ability to comprehended and follow State and County regulations, program policies and procedures
Ability to comprehended and follow Federal and State confidentiality requirements
Knowledge of generally accepted principals of SUD treatment, SUD education, and prevention in a group and individual setting
Ability to keep accurate, legible written records, and, listen and communicate effectively
Ability to facilitate client insight into their involvement with alcohol using MI
OR
Any combination of academic education, professional training, or work experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
