School Year On-site Tutor - Global Leadership Academy-West
Projected to start October 2024 Pending Grant Approval
Reports To: On-site Leader
BASIC FUNCTION
The New Jersey Tutoring Corps Inc. provides high-impact tutoring for K through Grade 8 students in math and literacy to close learning gaps. The New Jersey Tutoring Corps seeks to hire tutors to work with scholars in partnership with Global Leadership Academy West District. Tutors will work with small groups of scholars, typically in groups of 1-5, in grades K-8 in building skills in math and literacy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Engage with scholars in grades K-8 to build on existing mathematics and/or literacy skills and use social emotional skill tools and strategies provided to build scholar confidence and belief in themselves as learners.
Complete daily records on scholar progress and site needs using the tools provided.
Use data to drive instruction and maintain respect for the confidentiality of all program data and scholar information.
Communicate regularly with your site coordinator to provide optimum learning experiences for scholars.
Participate in coaching from an instructional coach and demonstrate the ability to receive and act upon feedback;
Possess the desire to continuously grow and learn;
Demonstrate a growth mindset;
Use an asset-based approach in working with scholars - “glass half full”;
Be responsive and work collaboratively with a team-oriented mindset
Fully engage in all training, asking questions along the way, practicing skills taught, and incorporating your learnings into tutoring practice.
Complete other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYER QUALIFICATIONS
Tutor must be able to:
Arrive to work on time,
Prepare lessons digitally,
Take attendance digitally and sit with students for 4-8 hours a day,
Clearly communicate instructions to students in grades K through 8.
Professional skills include attention to detail, timely and proactive communication, and job preparedness;
MUST have a Gmail email address or be willing to create a Gmail account; and experience with Google Suite applications: Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms.
Employees are encouraged to use their private computer device(s) to perform work-related assignments, if necessary employees can ask for a company loaner.
Genuine desire to work with young children in a teaching capacity, building on foundational skills and closing learning gaps using formative and summative data and strong teaching pedagogy;
Experience working with young children, preferably in a learning and teaching capacity;
NJ Fingerprint Certificate and Background Clearance- The final offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and employment authorization verification;
Must adhere to local health department and school district requirements for the site at which you are working, including any mask rules that must be followed if applicable.
Reliable transportation to travel to sites.
SITE INFORMATION
Locations: Global Leadership Academy-West
4601 W Girard Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19131
Afterschool tutoring program; twice a week (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
Tutoring time from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm; maximum hours to not exceed 8 hours per week (includes coaching meeting & prepping).
The program ends mid-May 2025

Please note, our tutoring schedule is based on the school calendar for the partners we serve. These calendars include predictable break periods during which OnSite staff may not be required to work. The predictable vacation periods include (but are not limited to) the following:
Winter break (mid December to mid January)
Spring break (mid March to mid April)
Summer break (mid May to mid September)
