Engineering Intern
Job Description
As an Engineering Intern, you will get to work on problem solving on a daily basis. As an example: sometimes that will be in the shop soldering connectors, and sometimes that will be on the computer designing custom BOS enclosures, but everyday will be a little bit different. Day-to-day, the role will vary depending on what projects are going on at the time. Projects range from small solar “suitcase” kits to self deploying robotic tents to high voltage 30kW solar systems to anything in between. Interns should be willing and able to do quality work both in the shop and on the computer.
Role
Work together with the engineering team to design, build, and test solar energy projects.
Engineer to work on design, manufacturing, and production of new and existing products
Modeling Mathematically Complex and Dynamic Structures
Flexibility to receive on-the-job training for specialized projects
Support design team on execution, material specifications, procurement,
Hands-on fabrication, prototyping, and manufacturing responsibilities
Develop and manage BOMs, Project Budgets and timelines
Coordinate prototyping and engineering challenges and troubleshooting during unexpected problems
Model, edit, and create designs for fabrication and drawings for manufacturing
FEA analysis
Requirements
Currently enrolled in, or recently completed a engineering degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering
A strong desire to create, learn, and adapt to everyday challenges in computer-aided-design, and in the shop
A strong understanding of the basic mechanical and electrical engineering principles including
Power and energy calculations
Force calculations
Electrical system specifications
Desired Skills
Experience with 3D CAD, specifically Autodesk Inventor
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software
Experience with power equipment including but not limited to: the drill press, angle grinder, and chop saw
Soldering experience with a variety of wire gauges
