Lots of Extra Credit
Nicest teacher possible
Cons: handwriting can be a bit difficult at times
Dr. Opoku has been teaching A&P at maryland for over 17 years and looks good for her age. She puts the material in a may you understand but in the end your grade relies on how well you are at memorizing the content not understanding it. Every test has extra credit built in and so do summary sheets. Practicals aren't to bad as long as your TA is great. Make sure you study a week before all practicals and tests. Take her is you want to pass a&p one.
sorta funny in class
passionate about her class and subject
Cons: Hard to understand
very difficult lab sections
Make sure you extreme study for the lab practicals, however the third one is the easiest so even if you do poor on the first one don't be discouraged!
-knowledgeable
-friendly and funny (sort of)
Cons: -sloppy handwriting and disorganized presentation of notes
-lecture material does not correspond to what is done in lab that same week
-accent makes it hard to understand lecture sometimes
Overall, a moderately difficult class solely because of the amount of information covered. The lab practicals were the hardest assignments of the class.
- Quiz at the beginning off lab pretty much every week along with a graded "summary sheet" homework assignment that is due at the beginning of every lab. Summary sheets are relatively easy (I got 100% on all of them) and a good source of points towards your final grade.
- 3 lecture exams and 3 lab practicals; plus a NONcumulative final
Cons: Poorly written exams
Awful grading technique
Very egotistical and disrespectful
Inefficient use of class time
Going to office hours is a complete waste of time
Firstly, she is incredibly disrespectful towards students especially if you go to her office hours. She is not afraid to lash out and say truly immature and mean things. She spends the entire lecture just rewriting almost word for word what is posted on her powerpoints. A total waste of class time and frankly a waste of student tuition money. Her exams are very poorly written with questions either not corresponding with the answers or completely misleading questions. Even if you provide an answer which is correct, if it is not almost exactly the same as her answer key, then you will lose points and won't be able to get them back. She writes exams that are extremely too long especially for a 50 min class. Truly a waste of time and disappointing example for BSCI department. If you have any care about the quality of education or preparing yourself for medical or graduate school, I would avoid this class at all costs.
Really easy to understand.
Writes all her notes on the board (this is all you need to study for her exams).
Her exams are easy.
Cons: Have to put in some time if you want to study for her practicals./exams
Quizzes are given in the lab each week, but those are up to your TA.
Cons: expects you to know a lot!
Opoku codes matching portion of exams to spell out a phrase, making it easy to get full credit on that portion of the exam.
Cons: Practicals were very difficult, requiring a lot of memorization for only 25 questions.
Quiz difficulty depends on the T.A.
Opoku is very straight forward and helpful as a professor.
Cons: she is a bit difficult to understand
her exams are DIRECTLY from the powerpoint slides and the notes she writes on the board. she is very straightforward and honest about her exams and what she is asking
Cons: Lots of memorization.
Labs can be hell depending on your TA. I got lucky with a nice one.
Someone made flashcards for the final exam review. This site is a huuuuuuge help in preparing for exams. Also, the supplementary website subscription is great. The etext is easy to use and the study tools are really helpful for the lab- the art labeling tools in particular. I found this class more interesting, more straightforward and easier to study for compared to BSCI105.
Cons: hard to understand her accent sometimes during lecture.
huge class, can be hard to see from the back/pay attention. very dull/repetitive at times
a lot of studying, lab can be very difficult too, especially the lab practicals. set aside at least three hard days of studying before each exam and each practical, and you should be fine for an A or a B.
Exams are fair; matching is especially easy
Professor is funny and engages students
Cons: Takes a while to get used to Opoku's accent
Lots of content to memorize.
I had Professor O'Brien for Anatomy 2. She pales in comparison to Opoku. Opoku was much more organized and clear
Exams are directly from her notes. Must memorize powerpoint slides. Sometimes when she writes stuff down, they are not in the powerpoint, but that usually only like 1 note. I wrote down everything in class and studied the powerpoints and class notes. Lab is difficult. Be prepared to study a lot. Lecture exams are easy if you know everything from the powerpoints. She posts old exams which are useful.
Cons: Her accent and handwriting needs a little getting used to.
Great teacher and you should definitely get her if you get a chance.
Cons: She was sometimes hard to understand and the lab practicals are almost pure memorization, so you need to be willing to put in the work to do well.
