Job Title: Preschool School Teacher
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Reports to: Lower School Director
Job Summary:
Excelsior School of Philadelphia is seeking an enthusiastic and nurturing Preschool Teacher to join our early childhood education team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating a safe, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool-aged children. The teacher will utilize the Teaching Strategies curriculum to support the social, emotional, and academic growth of each child.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Planning and Delivery: Plan and implement daily activities that align with the Teaching Strategies curriculum, fostering development in language, literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills. Create lesson plans that cater to the individual needs and interests of preschoolers, encouraging exploration and creativity. Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including play-based learning, to engage children in meaningful learning experiences. Integrate technology effectively into the curriculum to enhance learning experiences. Assess student progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to students and parents.
Classroom Management: Establish a positive, supportive, and structured classroom environment where children feel safe and valued. Guide children in developing self-regulation, cooperation, and conflict-resolution skills. Ensure the classroom is clean, organized, and well-maintained, following all safety and health guidelines. Implement effective classroom management strategies to promote student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect. Address any behavioral issues promptly and professionally, involving parents and administration as necessary.
Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to enhance the educational experience for students. Work closely with colleagues, support staff, and the Lower School Director to create a cohesive early learning program. Maintain open lines of communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and achievements. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school-wide events. Engage in regular communication with parents, building strong partnerships to support each child’s growth. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education.
Child Assessment and Development: Monitor and document each child’s progress through observations and assessments, maintaining accurate records. Provide regular feedback to parents and guardians on their child's development, offering guidance and support as needed. Identify and address any developmental delays or concerns, working collaboratively with families and specialists when necessary.
Student Development: Support the social and emotional development of students, promoting a growth mindset and resilience. Encourage a love of learning and curiosity in students through innovative and creative teaching practices. Provide additional support to students who may need extra assistance to achieve academic success.
Qualifications:
Required:
· Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
· Experience working with preschool-aged children in an educational setting.
· Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
Preferred:
· Pennsylvania teaching certificate.
· Current CDA
· Prior experience teaching in a preschool setting.
· Familiarity with the Teaching Strategies curriculum.
· Familiarity with Pennsylvania state academic standards and benchmarks.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
· Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
· Must be able to work in a classroom environment, which includes working with students in both one-on-one and group settings.
