I've been in this class for 2 months and I already feel stupider having listened to this guy. He is the most arrogant professor I've ever encountered. He talks to us like we are 5...

I ended up in his section of 320 after the other one conflicted with another commitment. I regretted it. I'm sure he's a smart businessman, and that he's got a lot of experience...but the man should not be put in a lecture hall in front of 80 students to teach management. He doesn't have good public speaking and lecture skills-without sudoku I would have fallen asleep. The assignments are very random, and he frequently contradicts himself on the same page of requirements. Furthermore, he is HORRIBLE at writing tests. Not only are there NUMEROUS grammatical and spelling errors, the questions make no sense. And forget asking him-he can't even explain his own tests. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR if you can help it-your GPA and semester will be the better for it.

Who really is at fault for hiring such a poor professor is mainly the dean of the COB and his administraion. E-mail the president of CSU and tell others you know to complain that you are tired of the BS the COB has to offer. CSU will listen to students if enough complain. I don't see how this college is so prestigious when they have so many bad professors? We the students can change it for the better! So complain and help get rid of the BS from the COB!

Durand is terrible. HE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE STUDENTS. I had multiple issues with Durand throughout the year regarding small problems that could be solved easily. He takes little time and no effort to assist students when something doesn't go 100% smoothly. I am a senior and have NEVER had any issues with a teacher to this extent. Secondly, HE IS DISORGANIZED.His assignments are ambiguous to the point where the whole class is lost. He often changes large aspects of the course without documenting it on webct, email, the syllabus or any other method. We had one instance where Durand changed the grading policy for quizzes twice throughout the year with no documentation. He changed how many points the quizzes were worth and which quizzes could be replaced grade wise. HIS WORK IS NOT IMPRESSIVE.The whole reason I felt encouraged to do this is because I am currently studying for his final. While going through his notes I have found at least three spelling mistakes and 5 grammatical mistakes per slide set. Also, it wasn't uncommon to find quiz and test questions with spelling and grammatical mistakes either. I dislike Durand's teaching style and practices so much that after the course I am going to write him and the management department head a letter concerning these issues and others. I have not done so yet because during the course he has assigned 50 points to "professionalism" (which nobody knows how he judges this because he has never said) and Durand seems like the type to be biased in his decisions.

Marc Durand has a monotone voice and his teaching style is dreadful. He states in his syllabus that class is presented in an interactive environment but he offers no chance for others to speak. If you enjoy sitting for an hour and hearing someone rant, this is the class for you. During the semester I had an issue that was largely a mutual error and he offered me no alternative solution to the problem. He will not work with you for special circumstances or take the blame for anything. If I took a guess I would say that he does not have tenure and will do anything to not step on the toes of anyone besides the students because obviously they cannot insure his job. If only he knew that happy student equals happy employers as long as goals are accomplished. The class is tested over lecture and book material; a good grade is possible by doing your work.

Seems to be some people leaving both positive and negative feeback. I'll cut to the most important stuff. First off, Durand's lectures are extremely dry and boring. Second and most importantly, his damn tests don't match up AT ALL with lecture, and mildy touch on the book. I studied so long for his tests, and even spent hours and hours making a study guide he lets students use for tests. I think I used TWO terms/concepts from my study guide for his 50 question test. Awesome. Thanks for nothing.

I also don't know what people are complaining about. Durand was a nice enough guy, and he made sure that everyone was on the same page each day by addressing any student concerns/questions at the beginning of class. The key to doing well, and getting the most out of Durand's class, is simply to go to class. It works best to print the powerpoints and write side notes on them, because he will give you great insights into some of the terminology and relevant examples from his days in the international business circuit. I had the class at 8 am and only missed about two classes because the class was actually interesting as well. I would give Durand an A.

Too much to say. Took him two semesters ago. Group projets are a joke. We spent hours on the first one, and got a C. On the second one, I convinced my group to make it up, literally, it took us one hour, he actually wrote on one of our graphs "what is this" and yet we got a B+. When I went to talk to him about it, he was completly unavailable, or busy with the 10 or more other students whose questions he wouldn't answer. Didn't make enough copies of the test, accused us of cheating and tried to report our class to the dean, when confronted, he retracted his post online threatening us and gave us nearly the EXACT SAME TEST, which was posted online, the very next week. He did some other things that were reported to deans, and promised not to be repeated. And yet he wasn't fired. A kindergarden teacher would be a more effective instructor for this class.

Durand has no idea how to teach material to students in a clear, concise manner. I realized half way through the course that the only way to learn the material was to read the book and STOP going to class. Class was confusing and pointless, and the 3 extra credit points he gave on some days for attendance were not even worth it. His "Case Projects" are very, very time consuming. Plan to spend a heck of a lot more time on them than you originally plan. The individual homeworks take awhile too, but just compare with someone after you've done it individually and you'll be able to get the right answer for most of the questions. Basically, Avoid Durand at ALL costs.

This class is way way way way better than BN 301. He is still arrogant and lazy, but the material is so much easier to understand. His tests are extremely difficult. Whatever you study it will not be on the test. I think he was asking trick questions.

This class has been the biggest waste of time, money, and effort. Not only is the class boring, time consuming, and a waste of time you have a teacher teaching the course who doesn't know what he is talking about, uses the books PowerPoint’s, uses the books test bank, and uses a laser pointer to lead class discussions. Why did they even assign an instructor to this class? This guy needs to be fired and should not be allowed to teach this course. I don't understand that if this many people have a problem with this guy and his evaluation scores are that low, how CSU still employee's this guy. Worst teach I have had in 4 years, at two institutions.

Avoid Durand if possible. He is by far the worst teacher i've ever had. The final didn't even seem relevant to what he lectued in class. He won't bother to clarify anything for students. The school of business better get rid of him. No student should have to put up with a professor who has a complete lack of compasion toward thier job. Hey Durand, why don't you go back to East Asia, maybe they like you more there.

Worst professor ever!!! Doesn't even care for the students. He gives out a 40 page review for the test, which is a joke. Doesn't even seem like he tests you on what he lectures. By the end of the class i bet only 1/4 of the class attended his class. I hope he gets fired, no student should have to put up with this horrible of a teacher. A true disgrace to the business school.

This is the worst professor I have had here at CSU. A discrace to the college of business!!! My group has gone in and asked for help on our projects and he normally is never in his office and if he is he is very unhelpful. He doesn't look out for the students at all.

Mr. Durand made it in to the school newspaper (4/15/05): "Studying for an exam and a teacher who gives a 40-page study guide: 10 hours. Paying for a class you don't care about: $500. Watching your teacher have to cancel a test because he didn't make enough tests: Priceless."Basically all the other comments are correct. He cancelled class quite a few times for no reason. He couldn’t figure out how to work the VCR so he cancelled class. Fortunately, he offered the final as optional if we wanted to keep our current grade, however some students were forced to take it since his tests are ridiculous. Copy down the formulas in the book and definitions from the chapters on your cheat sheet and you should get through the class. He obviously does NOT want to teach this class.

Mark grades hard on the group assignments. Dont wait unti the last minute to do it with your group. Homework assignments are supposed to be done alone, but work with a group to cut your work time to under 3 hours. Tests are really hard, make sure to read the book and class is not very beneficial.
