La genetica tra scienza, storia e società

About this Course

This Genetics course presents a historical account of the key discoveries from the last century that led to the modern concepts of gene and genome, with particular emphasis on the scientific method. The first part focuses on a revision of basic knowledge in the field and some consolidation work. The course then looks at key topics in more depth, like genetic mapping, gene regulation, mutation, genetic coding and genetic analysis of “pedigree”. The course also offers food for thought about the relation between genetics, society, history, economics and politics. There are many hyperlinks in the text which enable the learner to explore key topics in more depth and to read scientific articles in their original version.
