Job Title: School-Based Behavioral Health Clinician  

Job Summary: The School-Based Behavioral Health Clinician at Paving the Way MSI is a crucial role dedicated to providing comprehensive school-based behavioral health services. This full-time position, aligned with the Public Health Model, involves prevention, early intervention, and mental health care within the school environment. The clinician works 5 days a week, in-person all year, fostering a supportive and therapeutic environment for students, families, and school staff. 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities: 

Service Delivery: 

  • Provide in-person school-based behavioral health services following the Public Health Model. 

  • Conduct prevention and early intervention activities, including workshops for teachers and parents, classroom delivery of evidence-based curriculums, and small group sessions (e.g., social skills building, problem-solving). 

  • Deliver Tier II supports to targeted groups of students, families, and school staff. 

  • Provide a minimum of 18 hours of direct care to students and families within the Tier 3 framework. 

Schedule and Attendance: 

  • Work full-time, 5 days a week, in-person 12 months a year, minimum 8 hours a day unless the school is closed or otherwise approved by DBH. 

  • Participate actively in approved off-site training sessions, group supervision, and community-based treatment as required. 

Training and Professional Development: 

  • Attend the SBHP 101 training within the first 90 days of hire. 

  • Actively participate in the Community of Practice and adhere to agency policies and guidelines. 

  • Engage in continuous learning and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and contribute to the program’s success. 

Collaboration and Team Participation: 

  • Actively participate with the school's Behavioral Health Team. 

  • Contribute to the School-centric Assessment and development of the School Strengthening Workplan. 

  • Engage with the school wellness/behavioral health team on a bi-weekly basis. 

  • Collaborate with the School-Based Coordinator on activities, planning, and outcomes. 

  • Participate in required supervision, wellness/mental health team meetings, and crisis interventions as needed. 

  • Communicate student progress and outcomes to the school-based wellness/mental health team and/or school leadership. 

Caseload Management: 

  • Carry a caseload as agreed upon by the clinical supervisor and PTWMSI. 

  • Provide culturally responsive and linguistically competent services. 

  • Complete required documentation, including the Daily Activity Tracker and monthly caseload reports. 

Evaluation and Reporting: 

  • Conduct initial and follow-up assessments using the CAFAS/PECFAS outcome tool. 

  • Participate in evaluation activities as identified by DBH and external evaluators. 

  • Complete notes and all documentation within the required time. 

  • Bill for treatment services and adhere to reporting requirements. 

Additional Responsibilities for School Behavioral Health Program Benchmarks: 

  • Implement engagement activities and prevention curriculums as outlined in the School Strengthening Work Plan. 

  • Conduct early intervention groups, teacher and parent workshops, and participate in school-wide activities. 

  • Meet with students according to their treatment plans. 

  • Facilitate two skills-based and evidence-based groups, one family engagement activity, and two staff wellness events per academic year as determined by the school strengthening tool. 

  • Utilize organizational resources to support students, staff, and families (i.e., counseling for adults, psychiatry, case management, DC MAP care coordination, or victim of crime services). 

  • Adhere to agency clinical documentation guidelines and timelines. 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands/Skills: 

  • Work is typically performed in an office or school setting. 

  • Full-time, exempt position. 

  • Standard workdays are 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM (may vary based on school placement) in person. 

  • Must be able to perform the physical, mental, and emotional requirements of the position. 

  • Demonstrate advanced skills in using Microsoft Products and Patient Electronic Medical Records. 

  • Ability to manage change and support the agency mission. 

  • Maintain sensitivity to religious, ethnic, and cultural differences in others and show respect and empathy. 

Education/Experience: 

  • Required: Master’s degree in social work or counseling. 

  • License: LGSW/LGPC. 

  • Preferred: 1-3 years of experience in the provision of outpatient mental health services to youth and/or adults.
