2 tests, 2 quizzes. Test 1: 35%, Test 2: 45%; Quiz 1: 10%, Quiz 2: 10%. I scored a 86, and 90 on tests 1 and 2 respectively, and was in contention for a C because of the way the professor administers his quizzes. The quizzes are both 10 MCQ's to be taken within the first 15 minutes of class without calculators. There is no time for calculation, no time to consider theory, no time to graphically consider the question being asked. As an individual with ADHD who is self-respecting enough to reject testing accommodations, this felt inadequate or perhaps unacceptable, but I must recognize it as partially my own fault. I am certain I achieved proficiency within the course materials greater than most of those peers within the class, but still ended with a B. He is too knowledgeable about his respective field to disrespect him by giving him a low helpfulness rating, but the style of grading was unreasonably difficult. If you're a perfectionist about your GPA, only take him if you're certain you can be one of the two students who score an A (ya miss 10 quiz questions, it's over, pal). In all fairness though, the tests are easy if you study well using the retired tests he provides via BlackBoard. Despite my discontentment with grading, it was an incredibly insightful course. I'm happy to have taken it. |
