Personal Statement

I am 51 years old. I started swimming at the age of eight. I was one of those kids who just jumped in the pool because I loved the water so much and couldn’t swim. I grew up in an apartment complex in Philadelphia that had a 10-foot pool and the lifeguards decided to show me how to at least keep my head above water so they didn’t have to keep jumping in to save me. As a child, I would watch the Olympics and I would think I can do that, so I taught myself how to swim. At 17 I became a lifeguard working for the City of Philadelphia. At 29 I started working for the YMCA where I was taught to perfect my strokes. And that is when I fell in love with teaching. I’m not going to sell you a dream and tell you that I can teach you how to swim in a certain amount of lessons; it doesn’t work like that, but what I can guarantee is that I will be with you every step of the way. With me, you get professionalism, honesty, and a great attitude. Come swim with me.
