Funny guy.
Cons: HARD exams
HARD quizes
As a business student, I was required to take two sciences, and this was one of them. As far as science courses go, it could have been a lot worse. I am seeing extreme variances in the ratings for Lim, and I am falling somewhere in the middle. Yes his class was ridiculously difficult with tests and labs consisting of some mind-boggling questions for a business student like myself, but he curved the hell out of everything. The first day of class he even said that this 151 course was geared towards individuals who were NOT skilled in sciences. It still ended up being hard and I ended up with a B which makes zero sense since I failed all the exams lol.
I don't know how the other professors are for 151 so I would suggest Lim you come across an easier professor.
Having said that, you will not learn much of anything. He talks about what he thinks are interesting examples throughout the lectures, then none of that knowledge will be relevant at all to the midterm or exam. Tests are extremely hard because his Powerpoints are unclear, formulas don't have defined terms, and most of it will be new knowledge anyway. His multiple choices have options A-B-C-D-E-F-G sometimes, so don't count on having 25% odds of getting a question correct. He will also make sure to include unnecessary numbers in the problems, with corresponding wrong answers as options. Then there are times where, if you've solved the problem on paper, he's made the answer "none of the above" so you don't know if you're actually right or not. The tests are full of mind games like that.
Overall, I would not recommend this professor. If there is someone else, take someone else. I don't regret taking Physics over Chemistry, but a better professor would've made a big difference for this class.
Cons: Terribly boring lectures.
Funny accent.
He is a mad scientist.
TK is one of the strangest professor's Ive ever had, and he is not very interesting either. He will literally barrel through the lecture, and I doubt he would stop lecturing even if a nuclear war was going on outside. His accent is humorous to say the least, and he is obsessed with his pop quizzes. The grading system for his class makes it very easy for you to pass, which is good considering it is a science class for business majors who don't give a damn about it. Overall, you will be fine in his class, but If you like chem and bio better- take those instead.
lets you out 10 minutes early each 50 minute lecture
lab homework is relatively easy
labs take the whole time
Cons: 1 midterm, 1 final. EXAMS ARE HARD.
miss your exam by accident? expect a lecture from him about how much you suck
lab homework every week
don't take this class if there's another professor. like obviously his grading may not be too bad, but his exams are a lot harder than his review sheets. he can be a dick
oh but his extra credit isn't too bad. he gives two out
The class is easy enough. He gives "pop quizzes" at each lecture. They are simple two-question multiple-choice quizzes, which you are encouraged to work with your classmates on. These are meant to be easy grade boosters. The material is simplified to the bare minimum, and exams are near exact replicas of homework sets and review sheets. If you have a pulse, and do your work, and take the time to ask questions, you will pass this class easily.
That said, Dr. Lim may not be the best physics professor if you have never taken a high school physics class. He can be a little difficult to understand- not because of his accent, but because in "dumbing down" the course materials, he makes some of the concepts unfortunately vague. Again, if you have trouble, this is easily remedied by asking questions- ask Dr. Lim, ask your TA, ask your classmates. You have to be proactive in this class.
Cons: Hard to understand at times. Tests suck more than imaginable. I got a 7 out of 15 on the midterm and had the highest test grade in my lab. He puts harder info on the test then he displays in class. There is a quiz every lecture. He takes attendance every class and he takes off a lot of points if you miss any. Buddy missed 4 classes and had 4 course points taken off.
Overall, do not take if avoidable. Really Nice guy but not that nice of a teacher. I will probably get a B or B+ but feel I would have had an A or A+ with any other teacher.
He gives you quiz at the end of every lecture to check ur knowledge and attendance. But as long as you skip no more than 4 or 5 classes, it would not affect ur grade. Group project is super easy. And homework is due every week but i didnt spend more than 30 minutes doing each one.
Just pay attention in class, and you should get an A.
I'm sure the stellar physics department at Drexel spends countless hours racking their brains trying to find the reason this class has to have such a huge curve. I bet they blame the curve on poor students. The reality is that Professor Lim couldnt teach people to breathe...That is unless he repeatedly showed you the easiest and most natural way to breathe, and then when it came time for the breathing test he would shove a sock in your throat and submerge your head in water. Once you fail the breathing test and die he will blame you for not doing what he taught you.
Secondly, the syllabus is a manuscript with pages of useless information further proving his seriousness about the course.
Thirdly, i must say he is trying his best to make the class interesting by his "in-class" demonstrations of how a mini hummer rolls away from the counter top and the distance it covered and the force of gravity acting on it. (at 9 am sharp)
2. attendance is required via daily graded pop quizzes
3. homework is due at the end of every class
4. he tests on how well you understand the QUESTION, not the actual material/concepts.
however on the bright side, he is a great lecturer, if you can stay awake for the material that is.
Honestly it was the hardest elective I've ever had to take. I got an A+ in the course, so obviously you can pull off a good grade if your willing to put in the time, but honestly I'm paying to learn about business and the workload just turned me off to physics in general.
Oh and the labs are a complete joke. I felt dumber for having gone to them but they're mandatory. I remember my group didn't even do the project. We kind of just talked about nothing and still got full credit.
this guy makes you feel like the class is going be enjoyable and fun but throughout the course you find out is the total opposite. He tricks you on the test, saying that is very easy to get a B when in reality the average is below a C. He pretty much treats Business Majors like Engineers , assuming we all love physics. He makes dumbed down subjects pretty confusing and expects you to grasp every single subject
Overall he is a horrible professor, he definitely needs to work on his communication skills and also to stop treating everyone like were majoring in physics
In conclusion, its very easy and possible to get a B, or perhaps even an A, but if you want to learn something, dont take Dr. Lim.
