Cons: She expects you to be able to read her mind, she doesn't use the regular system, and she doesn't like you to ask questions.
Cons: See general comments.
She's just not a good teacher. She uses her students for public recognition. She gives us stupid assignments and then sends them to people. Her corrections are rarely helpful. She doesn't have a grading rubric in her head at all. I got a 75 on the first paper, then worked my way up to an 80, then handed in a horrible paper a few weeks later and got a 90. I feel like she just gives everyone sucky grades at the beginning and progressively gives better grades as the weeks go on just to make you feel like you're learning something.
Cons: giving very few h.w. assignments meant that the students weren't prepared for the essays, she wasn't clear on her expectations
Simons is the only professor I've had at Drexel, that I disliked. She complained about our class being a hybrid class, and that we needed more time to develop our writing, but she hardly gave any small writing assignments. She also seemed to have something against technology. It seemed like for the first half of the term, she disliked everyone in the class. I'm happy I only saw her 1.5 hrs a week rather than 3hrs a week.
It's difficult to determine how she grades because she hardly writes any comments on the essays. I once got a paper back with a letter grade, and one comment on the paper, and she questioned something I wrote about myself! With hardly any comments on papers and not being clear on what she wanted to see in our essays, it's quite difficult to determine what to write to please her. I made sure not to sign up for her section for English 102 and English 103.
Cons: She's absolutely crazy. She is not understanding whatsoever, makes up grades based on whether she likes you or not, and has no email etiquette whatsoever.
DO NOT TAKE!
Cons: She's a bully
She's condescending
She's not fun to be around
Avoid her if you can.
Cons: -Condescending
-If you don't agree with her, you're wrong
-If you agree with her, but she doesn't want you to, she changes her own mind so that you are again, wrong
-Incredibly inconsistent grader
By far the worst professor I've ever had to be in the presence of. Taking her class is flat out a bad idea. Unless, of course, you think that having a professor who will lose your papers, grade you with reflection of her current mood, and treat you like a 5 year old is a good idea. A subservient-minded student may make it through her class though. Good luck if this sorry excuse for a professor's name happens to make it's way onto your schedule.
*Side note* You can't expect easy A's all the time or you will never be prepared for the real world, but in this case as I stated if you stick to the syllabus you will get an A. The students who were in my class that did received an A soo....take Prof. Simons and don't listen to the ignorant rumors.
However, in my opinion she is quite arrogant and is not a good teacher. In a class discussion she blatantly told one of my fellow students to, "be quiet and go check his sources," since he provided an opposing viewpoint to hers.
My favorite story is about her grading. My friend went to her for a writing tutor and Ms. Simons edited her paper. My friend (also a classmate in Ms. Simon's class) put the corrections in and handed it in to Ms. Simons. When my friend got her paper back, she saw that the very corrections Ms. Simons gave her were maked off when Ms. Simons was grading it! Ms. Simons corrected her own corrections!
