Really great class to take, especially if you need to fill an arts elective. I'm familiar with a lot of the music he talks about but he gives you additional facts about artists and songs that make the class really interesting. There are 2 exams and the final, which is cumulative. Other than going to 3 concerts and writing a 1 page paper about it, there is no homework for this class. Definitely take it!

I completely disagree with the guy who gave Bacon 1 star. You have to write a 10 page paper about what 3 records you would bring if you were stranded on an island. He breaks it down into 3 papers (one about each record) so that you don’t get bombarded at the end if you procrastinate which I know I would have done. I wrote about three rap records which definitely isn’t his music preference and I got a 100 on the paper. The rest of the class is journals that are actually kind of cool and definitely easy. And there is a final which could be a little difficult. Definitely listen to what the other guy said and write down every song and artist he plays, he writes them on the board during class, because that is a big part of the final. He also asks a lot of history questions that he talks about in class. You don’t need the textbook if there even is one. Theres one essay on the final which for my class was comparing two different genres of music and say how one helped influence the other. Other than that the exam isn’t too difficult and the class is easy. He doesn’t grade your three papers but he revises them and as long as you make the changes he suggests, even if you don’t like them just do it, hell give you a 100 because he basically grades you on how well you listen to his changes. Might not like it but just suck it up and take the A.

Scott Bacon is wonderful. He really has an ear for each individual voice, so he can tell when someone is off key or such and will work to make sure everyone knows the notes and the music. This class is perfect for people who have stage fright about singing by themselves or auditioning, but still love to sing! There are many opportunities for solos and duets and such if you want them.

Pros:
Professor Bacon is a great professor and an easy grader. His class is so easy, if you don't get an A in rock music, there is something else wrong with you. You can miss up to 4 classes without being penalized, but going to class pretty much guarantees you get an A in the class. Skipping rock music class is stupid, all you do is listen to songs and watch movies. This is a very easy 3 credit course.

One of the greatest choir directors I have ever met. He's funny, and especially open-minded to all types of music. This term we did Bohemian Rhapsody and All That Jazz. This is a really fun course and totally worth it if you love music.

Very easy material as I took him for a class focused mainly on The Beatles. Pay attention in class and take some notes and the exams will be simple.

Boring class, but easy as hell. Three papers on your favorite records are a joke and journals make up the majority of the grade.
Note: Make sure you write down all of the songs that he plays in class along with the artists - I didn't and there were about 20 questions on his final exam that involved pure matching of song names with artists.

Don't buy the book-- you won't need it. Come to class and pay attention and you'll do fine. For some reason the class made me feel I was back in high school. Very easy and Scott was very nice and understanding if you had any problems.

good class to take, attendence is mandatory, you have 2 midterms and a final that are all based off of class lectures and nothing to do with the book, his tests are pretty easy if you go to class, lastly you need to attend three music concerts and write a paragraph summary on each which he grades really easy, i would take this class again...

I wish I could take this class again. Hes one of the coolest professors ever. And his name makes me hungry. The psychadelic music documentary is phenomenal. 2 big thumbs up for Scott!

Awesome class = awesome teacher. Scott is a great lecturer, especially about rock n' roll. Some of the material covered was a little mundane, but he still made it interesting and fun. Pissing off the neighboring classes with loud music is def. a plus, so take him!!

History of Rock 'n' Roll from the mid 70's until now was probably one of the best classes I took at Drexel. Even though it was an elective I made sure that I got there early each day and attended every class. Bacon is one cool ass teacher. Even though I was a "rock 'n' roll minority" (black guy always in business attire), I enjoyed the class. I liked rock 'n' roll before I took the class now I love it like any other music that I've loved in the past. Definitely take this class if you can!!

This class is easy. It's a BS class, whenever I tell someone I am taking it they laugh. It's enjoyable, you learn about rock n roll, and get three credits towards graduation for doing it. You are allowed to miss four classes without if effecting your grade, there are three multiple choice scantron tests, and you have to hand in three concert reviews (so you have to go to three concerts or atleast make him think you did!) ... I would take it if you need an elective, or to fill in that business fine arts elective like I did :)

Bacon is awesome. Great teacher- really loves his job. He allowed us to miss 4 classes per semester- but attendance was otherwise required. He made class a blast and it's the only one I actually look forward to going to.

He made class a lot of fun and if you actually go, do the concert reports, and take some notes, you might just learn a thing or two that you can apply to your real life. (Who doesn't like some sort of music?)

Really nice guy who is eager to help students learn. I almost felt bad that I didn't have questions because he was so happy to answer them!
