Cons: - if you don't go to class, you'll probably do poorly on the exams
The class covers a ton of history and a large span of years so it may seem impossible at first to memorize all of the information. However, as I quickly learned after not doing so well on my first exam after skipping a lot of classes, his tests are based almost entirely on what he says in lecture. So if you attend class and pay attention and take some notes, you'll be fine! (my grades greatly improved once I started going to class more) If you don't like going to class...I'd recommend just memorizing all four-hundred-something years of history in the meager attempt to catch the relatively small amount information that he may include on the test (sarcasm obviously!).
Cons: Subtlety interjects political views.
If you take careful notes during his lectures and review the text, you should do well on the exams. Make sure to read the T/F carefully, as the wording can be tricky. Professor pretty much told us that he is a socialist/communist/leftist, but most of the time he imparts this view subtlety. Don't think I would take him again, but I faired pretty well in his class.
Cons: Hard to stay awake in class, monotone voice
Must take good notes for the tests
It can be hard to follow if you do you pay attention and it can be really hard to stay awake. Since the notes are not fully comprehensive because I did not pay attention at times, I wished he had an outline to follow. It is hard to know what is going to be on the tests because he does not review the material.
Cons: Goes off topic at times.
Interesting teaching style. Looks at his notes briefly then starts class at one point and time and then goes on from there without looking back at his notes once. This means that he can go off on tangents, and that you may not know what is important to take note of. His tests are generally easy multiple choice tests with no essays. I finished mine in about twenty minutes and got a 96%. The only people I have seen not do well in this class are those who do not show up to class, and then don't bother to even study.
Cons: he just talked and talked and talked for 80 mins, no ppt. VERY BORING! 2 exams determine your final grade, he never gave out practice exams or anything
don't take his class unless you are very interested in history (or you are interested boring lecture)
If you can handle someone talking the whole time while you try to scribble down his pages of notes (not to mention his tendency to jump a few years now and then, without warning I might add) then take him. His grade is comprised of one midterm and one final, no review, no study sheet.
Okay, I guess I didn't like him after all :X
And his hair is pretty funny. I was driving on I-95 not too long ago, saw a car with a drexel flag thing on it and he was driving it. I almost died.
He knows his stuff..he's a little old fashioned but his exams are made with straightforward questions.. if you goto class takes notes and read them you'll get an "A". Good guy.
