Cons: He made us buy a book we did not use. He is not very analytic, and is therefore unable to understand your analysis.
If you view English as a complete and total waste of your precious time, he is a good teacher. If you want to learn anything related to English, avoid him.
Cons: There are a lot of weekly assignments (for hybrid course).
He's a laughable teacher. He's easy to talk to and wants people to participate in class. He'll call on a random person in class to answer questions. Sometimes, he likes to pick on you but it's not bad. I like his emphasis on plain language.
Cons: Sometimes too harsh
It was a challenging class, but with effort one can get an A. Just make it clear to mr. watts that you want an A.
He is clear in what he wants to read from you. If you do what he says you should be fine. VERY energetic
Cons: Sometimes hard to listen to, picks on people.
Flexible about projects
Is relaxed
Easy grader
Cons: None that I can think of
Great professor. Ended up taking him for 102 and 103. Chooses really interesting books to read in class (for 103 we read a comic book called Maus). And when it comes time to write a paper he is really flexible on the topic. I actually did an in-class presentation (it wasn't even an option) just because I asked him if I could and he thought it was an interesting idea. Would definitely recommend him.
He really cares about his students. Gives a lot of work, but all of it is valuable and not too time consuming. If you want to learn a lot and come away from the class with a competitive advantage then take Watts. If you're an engineering student that hates English, well too bad--stop blaming Watts for your own dislike of the subject. He's a professor who truly cares about his students.
On a scale of 1-10 (ten being the highest) I'd give Watts a 20.
It is also true that he gives out a good amount of readings and responses, which can be time-consuming but not difficult. They're even on his ~~*own message board*~~ which he is very proud of, haha.
He's very lenient with deadlines, almost as if he expects half the class to turn in projects late.
Getting on his good side by being active in class discussions will be very beneficial.
Overall, loved him!
If you are in English 101 with him, here is my advice, listen to what he says, if he says "write this essay for a 7 year old", write it for a 7 year old, and whatever you do, don't write high school essays.
If you are deciding on taking this class. DO IT! For 103 I had another teacher and wanted Watts so bad that I BEGGED my friend to switch with me. love this guy.
I had him in 101 and I wanted to take him again in 102, but his classes were full. But now I'm taking him for 103. Even though he has a lot of faults, I like his class. He picks out really interesting articles, books and stories. If you don't like work, DON'T take Watts. He gives a good amount of work. It isn't hard, but it's a lot.
Overall, good stuff. I would take him again.
ok im just writing this cause it was because of this site that im taking this course, and i HATE it. He is very unorganized, doesn't tell us whats due, and im getting the impression that he is not a very good writer himself. Also, idk but the last time i checked this was a persuasive writing course and we have not done ANY persuasive writing.
