Has lots of study hours and ways to ask him for help
makes the class material easier to understand
Curves your grade
Cons: sometimes is a bit repetitive/annoying
big stickler on using your cell phone
Dr. B, in my opinion is a great teacher. I am an engineering student and took this class because I also had Dr. B for ECON-201 both which are electives for my major. His class structure is really fair. He does 15% hw/quiz and even weighs your midterm or final to a higher percentage depending on the one is higher. The tests can be moderately challenging, but if you study his practice problems he makes you will be fine. Also, I have never met a professor like him who goes out of his way to have extra help/office hours. He occasionally holds a midterm review going over the problems and has countless office hours and online chat hours during the week.
I dont know why people rate him so badly, if you like funny/corney jokes and want to learn a thing or two, take Dr. B.
-Has a grading system that will give you your best shot at earning an " A "
- It's all about connecting the dots
- The class is pretty damn interesting.
Cons: - Not for people who don't actually like Econ.
- Most kids dislike his class because he's actually trying to get you to become smarter.
I would take him again any day. But, if you are the type that just wants to get through Econ, drop his class because you will not do well. Work hard in his class and you will actually learn something and leave with a good grade. If you're looking for an "A" and you are an average student you need to invest the time!
-I enjoyed his class and he is an absolute joy. Then again, I'm an Econ buff! But seriously, take him if you can. You'll be in the hands of a valuable professor.
Not much work, just exams (all multiple choice)
He doesn't call on people at random, he only asks for volunteers
Cons: Class is very boring
He's really nice but he's a bit goofy. He comes of as very gullible and he has a "Minnesota nice" vibe about him. It always made me laugh whenever someone would give the correct answer, he would always say "Yah!" like from Fargo. But overall, the class itself is extremely boring. I don't think he's a very effective teacher and he doesn't engage the students at all. He occasionally tells very corny jokes in an effort to wake everyone up. He gives three exams and they are all multiple choice. I managed to get a B in his class, but I think I just got lucky. To be honest, I really didn't learn anything in that class.
Cons: Attendance sign-in sheet
Hard exams
Pretty bad teacher
He's a nice guy, but he's lectures are too confusing to keep up with. He jumps around slides which makes it difficult to take notes. You're not allowed to use electronics so if you decide to take notes you have to do so by hand. Exams are pretty hard and the exam problems can be confusing. Homework is hard and is graded on correctness. Make sure you take the practice exams seriously since they're graded on correctness too. An attendance sheet is passed around but the class is so big that if you have a friend that will sign you in then you don't have to go to class.
Cons: When there is work, he grades everything like a test, his homework consists of an assignment the week of a test, graded on a scantron. Essentially, the homework is graded like an exam. Horrible lecture, horrible humor, annoying, cellphone and laptop Hitler, dry as the desert,
Nice guy, shitty teacher. I literally have had a more enjoyable time watching paint dry. The man can never answer a question straight, and concise. He acts like a nice guy, and then grades like a dbag. You can take econ 202 with any other teacher and i guarantee it'd be easier. He tries way to hard to force you to learn by using economic theory and apply it to real life situations. His tests are biased and he doesnt even know what to put on them. He always ends up discarding questions because he thinks the class is a grad school level class and he likes to make students feel incompetent. He has a lot of achievements, none of which reflect his lack of experience teaching. Exerts zero effort outside the classroom and you won't know your grade unless you hike to 3600 Market Street to go get it. IF YOU WANT TO RECEIVE AN "A" AVOID BARNETT!!!!! You will be better off with any other teacher because you will receive the grade you actually deserve. The class in an intro level class, and you learn 300x more than any other class. If your in his class and get a C, you could be getting A in any other econ 202 section.
I got an A for this course. Grade is not the problem with Dr.B.
Cons: Well, as I said, he's not really good at explaining things.
Cons: Very Bad teacher
Ignorant
Very difficult Grader
Where should I start with this guy except to say that he is a "old fool". Dr B as he like to be reffered as has to class and thinks that he knows how to teach. His practice exams do nothing to help you with the finals. Assumes that the students know everything he teaches. He has jumped from college to college( probably got kicked out because of his lack of teaching skills) and ended up at drexel. I overheard him teaching eco to a student at starbucks and this is what I heard " I thought the students knew these terms but anyway". If u guys dont want a bad grade please ignore this faggot of a teacher.
Tries his best to make you understand Econ, may even dumb it down for you.
Gives extra credit if he thinks the class needs a boost in grades.
Boosts your exam grades by curving
Hw assignments are basically practice exams and maybe a few problems from he book.
You dont need the book, YouTube works good too.
Cons: Could be better at teaching the material.
You cant get away with bad grades, he still counts them at the end. Forgives but doesnt forget.
Cons: If you are a business administration major, chances are you are not very bright so you might be angry at him when you find out you get a C or worse. Don't be mad at Barnett, its not his fault you spend more time on LinkedIn than reading the textbook.
One of the best economics professors I have come across at Drexel. He explains difficult economic concepts in a creative and effective way.
Don't mind all the one star reviews, I know a bunch of people who HATED him just because they didn't do well. If you go to class, take clear notes, and read a bit of the textbook, you will get an A.
To highlight his commitment to his students:
Barnett hosted online office hours (to supplement his real office hours) frequently after classes and before exams. How many professors do you know that rush home, get on their computer, and answer questions until everyone is satisfied?
To conclude:
Take Barnett if you are interested in learning economics or just want to listen to a great lecturer.
Do NOT take Barnett if you expect to do nothing and get an A to maintain your perfect GPA (business kids) because that won't happen. Grow up and stop texting in class, because if you can't succeed in this class, you definitely won't succeed in life.
Cons: SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING, AT ALL!!
- very confusing, very bad at explaining
- totally irrelevant examples that makes no sense in real life.
took AP Microecon in high school, loved it, and though this class should be a cake for me. WRONG!! after 10 weeks, i lost every knowledge i have about ME (and learned nothing of course). do not take him if you care about understanding economics, or life.
-helpful and asks students to come see him if they need help
-online office hours
- 5 minute break halfway through class
Cons: -somewhat confusing examples and methods of solving problems
- not always clear on how he got a solution to a problem
- don't know your exact grade unless you see him
- no laptops in the back
all you have to do is pay attention and/or read the book. much of what he talks about is straight from the book, and the book even makes the concepts easier to understand. i had many idiots in my class, and they are probably the ones posting all the negatives comments about dr. B.
Cons: THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD- He is a complete idiot. he could not teach economics if his life depended on it. His examples that he attempts to explain economics terms are completely irrelevant. He is intellectually retarded. His three exams do not test your knowledge on economics at all, guessing is your best option for all his test questions. What he says in class, are some of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard, everyone in the room is now dumber for have listened to him. May God have mercy on his soul. Calling Barnett stupid is an insult to stupid people.
WHAT EVER YOU DO DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR ANY CLASS
Cons: Richard Barnett is somewhere between a cockroach and that white stuff that accumulates at the corner of your mouth when you're really thirsty.
Cons: Worst teacher I have ever had (including everything up to college)
Treats his students like children doesn't give credit for correct answers. I would love to transfer to wherever he went to college because they must hand PhD's out like candy on halloween.
Cons: He makes PowerPoints as if he was a middle school student.
He rants and strays off of topic.
He can not teach.
Can not simply material or creates case studies that are not one can not relate too.
Lowers my opinion of Drexel. The moment that he stated that GPA did not matter, I lost almost all respect for him, when he stated that. I knew he did not understand how college has changed since he got his degree
Cons: Barnett does a very poor job of teaching the material. He often goes off on tangents and distracts his students with dumb and meaningless stories. He uses poorly made powerpoint presentations and cannot effectively present the information. He is ambiguous when answering questions, which was not often, and belittles his students. Test questions were poorly worded and confusing.
I would highly recommend students DO NOT take this professor. Several of my classmates dropped because he was so bad.
Cons: He doesn't really teach you anything
Be ready to learn from the book, but he is a very nice guy and his tests are easy
