Anyway, there's only one thing:
TAKING HER CLASS!!! Lucky you
Cons: can be rude, voice is annoying
- Very nice woman
- Will occasionally tell a joke or talk about her heritage/hometown to lighten the mood of the class
- Will let class out early frequently when she finishes covering the lesson
Cons: - None; some people are complaining that she explains things too much, but as someone who is not good with math, that aspect is a huge plus for me.
Before I say anything about Odintsova, let me ephasize that I am in NO way good at math. It's the only subject area that I have never excelled in.
Odintsova explains everything really well and is willing to answer any questions students have. The course is entirely departmentalized so the work/curriculum is the same across all MATH-102 professors. Odintsova seems to genuinely interested in teaching her students the course. She has honestly made me better at math as a whole. I took this course with another professor in a previous term and had to drop, but Odintsova explained things so much more clearly. I highly recommend taking her, especially if you're not a math expert.
The course is tough if you don't refresh your memory. I studied the night before the quizzes and did very good since it was only 1 or 2 topics. I studied 3 days in advance for the exams and did poorly since it was on 5-6 topics each (obviously not enough time).
Cummulative final. -_- I never understood why schools did this. Prepare to study 14 sections worth of material....
HW problems could be 1 simple step or 5 simple steps or like 20 steps. -_-
Also, professor said they are changing the HW of the course in fall 2012 to make it harder (no online examples for you to follow).
You really can't avoid this class since it's required for most peeps. Just remember to STUDY HARD cuz grades arent curved
-She goes through the concepts smoothly and paces herself so everyone could understand.
-Has study guide for exams so study that and the homework for an A.
-The course curriculum is the same with all math 101 professors so here's some info on the class:
-Weekly online homework assignments (10-20 problems each). It could sometimes take hours to do when you start learning more time consuming stuff like matrices. But don't be alarmed because if you do the homework and study off it, you could get an A or B
-Weekly quiz. Fairly easy if you did the homework.
-3 Exams. Not hard but you won't get an A handed to you. Just study the study guide, homework, and formulas from class
Cons: About $200 for a new textbook that is custom made for Drexel (so you can't find it online). You are REQUIRED to get it and yes you will use it. It also comes with the online code that is required to do homework.
Want to save money? Buy the book from the bookstore EARLY, buy from a friend, or buy used from the book trucks on 33rd and Lancaster by the dorms (the trucks are only there during the first and last week of the semester).
Then buy the MyMathLab Student Access Code online or in bookstore (NEW version, Do not buy used because you can only use the code once!)
Used book and new code would be around $50 less than a new book that includes the code
Awesome teacher. I do not like math and did poorly on Drexel's math placement exam. But guess what? because this professor taught the course so smoothly, I got an A in the course! Also, I think this class may be easier in winter term than fall term (just an observation)
She is difficult to understand at times because she has a thick Russian voice. This is really her only problem.
You have HW problems to do every week and she makes you sign in every day. She gives review sheets before the exams. Do the review sheets and make sure you understand those problems because the exams are based strictly off of those sheets.
Do the homework problems, go to class periodically, and go over the review sheet prior to each exam and you should do fine.
Overall, she is a pleasant teacher who teaches the material well.
But I was definitely wrong. She is a very very nice person and really gives a damn. She is so thankful for....everything. She adds personal relevant experience and stories to math and keeps you interested. Who does that?
Do not be afraid to take her. Also, congratulate her on the promotion. She deserves it.
