Cons: Too much emphasis on math problems and almost no focus on understanding economic concepts.
Difficult to understand her English.
There is little to no emphasis on understanding economic concepts. The vast majority of class time is spent solving math problems and focusing on the details of the algebra involved. I highly doubt anyone would be able to speak intelligently about the economic concepts relevant to the course. They would be able, however, to solve the math problems that she assigned.
Yet again with these courses at Drexel, I want my money back
Cons: This class is significantly harder than ECON 301
Initially I believed that I would get an B or B+ from this class, because I did really bad in my previous two midterms. However, she then added extra credit questions on both the HW and the Final exam, so I ended with an A+ (she definitely curved).
Very helpful and caring
Very helpful for advice
List can go on
Cons: None
I don't why students think she can't speak very well. I'm not from a English speaking country, and I'm not Chinese, but I understand everything she says. If you're self motivated, she will help you do very well and learn.
Cons: always give homework
She's nice.
-Reviews before each exam
Cons: -Does not speak English well
-Bad feedback
She looked like she did not really care about whether student understood what she was saying. The class itself is easy for math people, but if you are struggling with take another professor.
Understanding
Willing to help however way she can
lets class out early
Exams are straight forward
no need to purchase the book (save your $)
Cons: hard to understand
does not review ECON basics
expects you to have a clear knowledge of basic Econ and Calc
powerpoint slides are useless without class notes
goes over things quickly wihtout much explanation
makes frequent algabraeic mistakes
very nice lady and easy to get an A if you go to class, do the work, and understand how to do the work for the exams. write good class notes (the slides are pretty useless if you dont follow along and write notes).
Extremely easy to get an A if you read all materials and focus on sample exams.
Cons: little accent
sometimes feel sleepy
Great professor! Easy class!
material cohesively presented
provides great study guides
works with you if youre lost
Cons: slight accent issue(although not as bad as some make it seem)
additional aplia portion for $70
shes a good teacher and very dedicated to making you learn the material. her notes are very comprehensive and you honestly dont even need to attend class if just want an average grade. if you do go though, ask questions and she will elaborate on anything. if no one says a word then she just reads the slides. the online portion was a bit excessive, she could easily have printed homework and just grade it with no additional cost. non the less she is a good professor and the course material is substantive
Cons: Sometimes hard to understand and can get repetitive.
The material itself is somewhat challenging but if you pay attention and do the homework's / reviews you will be fine.
I wouldn't rely heavily on the professor although she is willing to work with you sometimes she doesn't explain things in the easiest ways.
Cons: Class was math heavy and I didn't feel as if I learned many concepts.
Professor Dai really cares for her students. Midterms are easy/moderate difficulty and she gives us a homework almost every week. The class was really calculus heavy so you need to have a good/decent math background. We did tons of problems with given formulas and numbers, but were never taught how to find these numbers/formulas in real life. And yes she does have an accent but I can understand her 100%.
Definitely would take again.
Cons: For me the math is not enough, for others it's too much. I think she should only teach ECON or MATH major to improve the class's quality
She is very dedicated!
No surprises on exams
Cons: Heavy workload due to weekly homework assignments
Overall, Dai is an above average professor. It's difficult to understand her at times because of her accent, but she explains everything so that you can understand it. Econ 301 is not an easy class, so she does a good job teaching the difficult material. The workload is pretty heavy since there are weekly homework assignments which are collected and graded, some of the hw's can be quite long and will take at least a couple of hours. Her exams are fair, there are no surprises so if you study all of her powerpoints and reviews and understand everything, you'll do fine. Her grading on exams is fair since she applies a curve so that if the class average was a C or D, shes takes that to equal a B. Textbook not necessary since you just need to study her powerpoints and reviews for the exams.
Cons: Hard to understand and reads off the powerpoint so no elaboration on the topics.
Easy class if you study or the tests and do the homework.
In addition, she requires her students to register online for aplia.com which costs 70 dollars, no other sections are required to do this. She maintains a closed laptop policy, and instead asks students to print out 25 page slideshows and bring them to class, to help them "follow" what is being covered. Apart from being an added cost for students, this is only good for matching pictures on your handout to the slideshow in class because again, you cannot understand her speaking so you are helpless.
