the two midterms are difficult and the exam is a mixture of the two and is extremely difficult
I would not take her. I have never taken a course like this and to me she doesnt teach you. She wants you to memorize essays and try to learn from them. It doesnt work and her exams are so specific its non sense. She is awful and i do not recommend her.

Pros: Absolutely none.
Cons: No exaggeration, this will be the worst mistake you ever make.
As all the others, this teacher is an absolute abomination. She brings shame to Sociology, Anthropology, and other surrounding sciences. Her teaching methods are extremely flawed. She grades on a points based system in which every assignment is worth x amount of points of your overall grade of 100. So a two page paper may be worth 5 points, or a large exam may be worth 30. The class is a snooze festival. Her monotone voice drones on and on as she reads off of paragraphs of historical events and statistics from power point presentations. Engagement with the class is at a bare minimum. Readings are god awful and difficult to comprehend. Musket has a masters degree in Urban Anthropology. She conducts the class as if you are in Anthropology 101. When I entered this Sociology course I was expecting to learn the science behind why social events happen the way they do, not a history class on "this event, this date, etc." As far as I am concerned as a paying student at Drexel, this woman should not be allowed to teach. My time and money have been wasted. I cannot report or grade Musket as a person as I do not care much for her or her personal life (with the several snippets of life stories during class), however as a teacher she falls very short and is comes nowhere near decent.
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR ANYTHING

Pros: none.
Cons: terrible lectures. Doesn't know how to make a powerpoint - she loads the slides with paragraphs and statistics that WILL show up on quizzes and expects you to listen to her points. This would be acceptable if she released the powerpoints to the class afterwards, which she does not.
She is one of those professors that thinks her class is the only class you are taking. She expects so much from the paper and doesn't offer good advice when you meet with her.

Pros: She was pretty good. Didn't make us buy the textbook, she had it on reserve.

Pros: None
Cons: -absolute worst textbook, it is made for uneducated students with a 4th grade reading level.
-lectures of no importance/ learing
The textbook is horrendous, I would have learned more about anthropology from reading the back of a peanut butter jar. At least I would have learned the socio-cultural concepts of people being allergic to peanut butter.
A Sub-par instructor for the course at hand.

Do not take this class with Marilyn. I took this class as a required elective and it was the worst decision I could make this term. Even though the class was a hybrid, the workload was insane. There are multiple chapters to read every week with at least 3 discussion posts each week as well. You have to buy the book or at least have a lot of access to the book. The book is awful and does not help. Also almost every week there is a 1-2 page paper due for the term project. There is a final presentation for the term project as well as a final paper. This is not a writing intensive class, so this does not make sense. Marilyn only cares about her own views and will tell you that you are wrong, talk over you or move on to someone else. She also grades incredibly hard. This class has more work than my other classes and it's an elective. This class is just not worth it and is a waste of money.

She grade students based on whether or not she likes you. I got a 4 out of 5 or 5 out of 5 in journal assignments and she still miscalculated my grade. The final in this class was take home but you have to write 8 pages for it. To have success in her class you have to suck up to her.

Cons: Too much busy work
She's ridiculous, I hated sociology. Sociology is supposed to be fun and she made it so depressing. She gives so much unneccessary work, a 2 page paper every week, WTF, I have other classes too lady. She's an Anthro major why in the world is she teaching Sociology anyway. Her class is also unbearably boring. She treats her soc 101 class as if it's soc 350 or something. Don't take her class/

DO NOT TAKE. I actually took SOC 240, but Koofers wasn't showing it. The amount of work that she piles on you is ridiculous. I took her course in the summer and it was miserable. There is a ton of reading, and she doubles the workload during the last few weeks (or so it feels). The class is extremely boring, and I think this is the first professor I have come across who literally cannot teach. It was a mess. I did not learn anything and she could not explain anything to us. I felt like I was wasting my time everytime I sat down in that class. I have so many other classes where I feel as if the work is more important but everything she assigns is SO time consuming that it just takes forever. Seriously, do not take this class or this teacher. Complete waste of time and energy to get barely anything out of it.

Pros: never taking her again after this class
Cons: everything is a con with her
Urban Sociology - I cannot say enough negative things about this teacher and her attempt to educate students. She will not listen to what you have to say and does not care about your opinions. The class is all about what she thinks and her grading is based on whether she likes you or not. I passed in a proposal for a paper and she LOST a page of it so she graded me down for "missing parts". I have never witnessed a person in my class raise their hand and receive positive feedback. She attacks your thoughts and basically says only what she thinks goes. Avoid taking her at all costs.

Pros: NONE.
Cons: Assigns waaaay too much reading, grades impossibly hard, super boring, and she's just a horrible teacher in general.
Horrible, horrible person. She's rude, she grades like everyone in the class is a sociologist who's been studying the material for years, and she is impossible to please. I dread going to her class. Don't take her if you want an A. I'm typically an A student and I'm looking at a C in her horrible class. FYI, I took her for Urban Soc but that wasn't an option so I just picked Intro to Soc, so that class may be different.

very very boring lectures. has a soft voice and prefer long and complicated grammar which makes the lectures even more confusing. VERY HIGH EXPECTATION IN PAPERS (wait until you see the detailed rubrics). not very generous with grades. the textbook is rather lame, but she LOVES to refer from it. tries to engage class discussion but doesnt seem very interested in the students' answers, always think she's right. isnt very open-minded and interested in other cultures. overall doesnt get out much from this class, which sucks since it's a required class (supposed to be useful). i used to like linguistics but Musket makes it a waste of 3 credits.

Musket is definitely a professor with an agenda. Whatever your political leanings may be, she will only present her side of any argument and when a student offers the other side she will argue against the student and ask the class to do so as well. She requires a ridiculous amount of work for a 100 level course and is meticulous about attendance. Additionally she uses youtube clips and group "projects" to do half her teaching and fill half her class time.

This teacher grades ridiculously hard. Too hard. This is just a dumb elective and she takes it so seriously as if it were a major course in our lives. I am working so hard for this dumb class and am only getting a B- if im lucky on the final paper

Watch out for this woman. She screws up grades and refuses to admit it until you go to the administrators. She tried to say I hadn't taken the midterm because she lost it. Then she recorded wrong grades for other projects I did and gave me the wrong final grade. It took months to correct HER mistakes. She's also really boring and condescending towards students. Don't take her if you want to keep your sanity intact.
