Lloyd's a great guy. Truly cares and loves what he teaches. He's a bit of a free spirit so he catches up on grades when he wants but if you put in the effort, you'll get full credit. Due dates are never set and things change a lot but if you go to lecture you watch a lot of movies and you can always do other work in his class. Do well on the midterm and you can skip the final. Definitely take him, he's great for engineers because he doesn't require too much and everything can be done with minimal reading.

Pros: Ackert is one of my favorite professors. I've made sure to take him for all of my history classes. Very passionate about what he's teaching. He's very understanding over late assignments and is willing to give you as much time as you need.
Cons: None

Pros: His exams are take home, which is helpful. His monograph project is pretty easy. He's very understanding and will give extensions if you ask for one. He's a pretty easy grader. Also, he allows you to redo questions on the midterm to get some points back.
Cons: His discussion posts require a lot of reading

Pros: Really nice, approachable professor. Always on time, clear about expectations. Posts his Powerpoint presentations. Gave out candy.
Cons: Very slow about getting grades back. His lectures are a bit dry. No class discussion (which for some students is a pro and not a con I suppose.)
It's difficult to do poorly in Ackert's class, but if you're looking for a challenge, look elsewhere. However, he's one of the nicest professors I've ever had. I probably would not take him again because I need to be more challenged, but if you're looking for that easy A, go for it.

Pros: 1. Absolutely loves the subject.
2. Entertaining.
3. Very knowledgeable.
4. Assigns reasonable amounts of material and gives you very good structure for the papers.
Cons: None.
Lloyd Ackert cares far more about his students coming away with an appreciation for the subject and an ability to analyze history than he does for petty grading.

Pros: 2 exams, midterm and final, both were take home essay form. He realizes that we're not all history genius' which is why so long as you wrote enough to give a "fair" answer, he gave an awesome grade. I ended up getting an A, and I usually did terrible in all my history classes throughout my learning career (college, high school, etc.) so if that doesn't speak as to how good he was, I don't know what does.

Professor Ackert is the perfect blend of intelligence, humor, and kindness. His classes are never boring because he paces his lectures perfectly and throws in an occasional movie or interesting side-notes to keep students entertained. Weekly discussion boards and two easy exams are the bulk of the grade for his classes. He is very approachable and very flexible with deadlines.

He is really easy. exam is open book and take home. He gives you like a week to get it done. after he grades it he also gives you a chance to improve your grade if needed. he has a paper at the end of class which is really easy..take him and you will not regret...easy grader

Easy class easy teacher. Attendance is not mandatory and all the exams are take home. But the exams aren't entirely that easy. They are all short answers and must be answered using class notes or you would lose a point here and there... which can add up because there are many questions. But the good thing is that he lets you re-do tests if you arent satisfied with your grade. There is a final presentation at the end, but that's just a piece of cake. Looking for a grade booster? take him.

Yeah, his lectures can drag on sometimes, but he gets really interesting when he goes of on tangents about his life. He loves watching movies and most of the work youll be doing in this class involves watching movies on youtube outside of class. He also randomly cancels class fairly often but gives an interesting reading or movie to make up for it. If your taking this class to really learn history it might be boring but for anyone who wants a fairly interesting introduction to basic history with some strange (and admittedly corny) side stories, this prof is the guy for you.

He's a multiple choice history teacher. Which means, tests are much harder since they have a narrower scope.
Very nice guy, tried his best to teach, but I think there was simply too much material to go through in those 10weeks. It just made his exams that much harder.
On a sidenote; As a conspiracy theory, has he mentioned DUReview to anyone else DURING his class? I actually didn't find out about this site until he mentioned it! I feel like he mentions it on purpose just to get good reviews? Yes/no?

Dr. Ackert is really one of the best professors to have, especially for the senior seminar which takes a lot of time and dedication to complete. you can not ask for a more understanding professor than him. i hope for the future students he continues to teach this class that would otherwise be a complete nightmare.

Totally cool guy! He's sort of like an overgrown nerd. Class was fun and informal, workload was alright (midterm, final and a 2,000-word final paper). The course was a lot of note-taking so either go to class or find someone who'll share their notes with you. Laidback and fun.

Really tries to make ancient civilizations interesting. Only focuses on the main points and doesn't make you memorize a bunch. Go to class because you can't study off the powerpoints and he doesn't test on all the material in the chapters. Willing to listen and grades fairly.

What an outstanding history course. while all my friends had crappy professors learning useless knowledge, Prof Ackert is truly the best. I sincerely enjoyed reading the two books for the class, although you can probably get away with not even reading them. If you study, the tests should be very fair. (ps: he gives hints during the test the longer you stay for them). There is one final paper which shouldn't be that hard, and he'll even read it over beforehand and tell you what you need to do to get an A. The final was a piece of cake. Everyone should get an A and learn a great deal!

Lloyd is a great professor. He makes boring topics fun, has a fair grading system, organizes his notes effectively, and truly cares for his students. The midterm and final exam are essay and multiple based, with partial credit opportunities on the multiple-choice questions. Definitely take Lloyd!

Lloyd is a great teacher. He manages to take a boring history course and actually make it interesting. His tests are great -- even though he uses true/false and multiple choice questions, he takes no points off if you can logically explain your answer. There are a lot of great things about him, but this is a small space, so TAKE HIM!

I am on Co-op but am taking the class to fill up some extra time. He is really easy and fair. He gives you every chance in order to pass and get an A in the class so if you dont pass then you're the stupid one. Just go to class and read the book. Simple enough. REALLY GREAT PROFESSOR!
