 Pros: He is a really strange man but is really interesting. He has a sense of humor. Class always ended an hour early at least.
Cons: He never liked anyones work. He would cut up your projects or tear them off the wall if he thought they were that terrible.
I would take his class with someone you know because he can make innappropriate comments and it can be awkward.

 He is an awesome teacher, he is tough and very intimidating. But he is worth it

 If youre looking for an easy A, newhouse is not your guy. you need natural talent and a ton of commitment to do well in his class. that said, i enjoyed having him as a teacher, which is why i had him 2 terms in a row. He is very sarcastic, and honestly, i found myself laughing through much of his class. His critiques are honest and unfiltered, but the way he says things, to me, is not meanspirited but rather truthful and slightly comedic. His curriculum is far different from any other design teacher, and you can expect to work on projects which are completely different from any other classes. He encourages students to think in an abstract way, and be creative with materials. after taking his class, i feel i learned not only about design, but also about accepting criticism. If you have talent, a thick skin, and a desire to learn i would recommend taking a class with newhouse.

 Every class I went to made me want to withdraw from the class and take it again as a Sophomore just so I wouldn't have to have him as a teacher. This guy seems to have a brick fetish (he insists that you can take a brick to the movies) and is entirely insane. He has the mind set that college students have an unlimited amount of money and access to all sorts of tools. While other classes are making cubes out of wood, he will have to cut, drill, and bend metal and plastic. He never likes anyone's project and has everyone redo them at least three times. If this is the only teacher left, wait until the next time it is offered and take someone else.

 Thought he was going to be horrible and very hard at the beginning, but his projects were interesting and fun. Materials changed a lot and could get expensive, but it made the projects more fun. He's very honest about your work, and if it's bad, you'll know it, but it's worth it to get a better grade the next time around.

 Newhouse is obsessed with abstract stuff, it's really annoying and he's a horrible grader. He has a very dry sense of humor, in fact a dry personality in general. Good luck...

 Seems really mean but is really the exact opposite... VERY critical w/artwork... hated him in the beginning of the term, loved him by the end. Gives lots of work but it all pays off in the end... although I hated the work @ the time, Id take him again if I had the chance.
