DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS EVER TAUGHT BY THIS CREATURE. WARNINGWARNINGWARNING!!! He is horrible, terrible teacher, your success in the class totally depends on the competency of the TA's, even they hate him. This class, and this man are horrible. You can't understand his accent and he rarely gets through any of his class notes.

Pros: He is nice.
Cons: The exams are petty hard so you have to understand the concepts explained in lecture and recitation.
Your recitation TA is the most important factor because the lectures don't help enough.

Cons: Hard to understand and teaches directly from the book. You really need to learn the material by yourself if you want to do well. The tests tend to be very confusing and overly complicated. Avoid if possible

Cons: worlds worst professor at drexel. doesnt speak english well and asks the most ridiculous questions on exams. it is suppose to be an out of major class and he makes it like we are in grad school. more people fail out than stay in.

Pros: None other than content
Cons: He can barely speak English, and even his exams and quizzes are hard because they are ambiguous or badly worded. Half the test is figuring out what the problem is even asking exactly. Uses transparencies and runs through problems without truly teaching.
Can barely speak English, not much of a teacher. Learn of the book and just sit in lecture in case theres a quiz

Pros: None
Cons: his english is kind of fuzzy, his tests and quizzes are hard. Some of The TA's also don't speak fluent english...
Everyone gets like a 40 and then he applies a massive curve to bring the average to a 75... I mean Im not going to fight it, but its still messed up!

Worst professor at Drexel. The first problem I had with him was the language barrier. He is very difficult to understand. Second, all he does during lecture is derive equations, but you have to go in the event of one of his quizzes, which are also crap. The only thing positive about this course are the recitations. If you ask, the ta will go over everything that he "went over" in lecture. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS

Dr. Yuan makes INTRODUCTORY Physics way too hard. Not only did he have to curve the average of 54 on the midterm up to a B-, but he didn't teach anything in lecture at all. But it's not like you can skip it either, because he also has some really dumb in- class quizzes that apparently can have multiple answers for each question. Going to recitation was helpful for me, because the TAs were better teachers than Dr. Yuan was. But even recitation was unfair, because some TAs would be giving the whole class period for a quiz that was administered for only 15 minutes in other recitations. Then there were some TAs who told their kids basically the theory of the problem or the ACTUAL QUIZ prior to their kids taking the quiz. So basically it depends on who your TA is, or you'll probably get really low scores on your quizzes due to time constraints/unfair advantage if you get a bad TA. The midterm was complete crap, because he had never even given us questions really like that before, since the homework questions were 1 part questions, whereas all the questions on the midterm were multi-part questions. Although Drexel may want to keep Dr. Yuan for his credentials, it's not fair to students who are paying $50,000 NOT to fail Introductory Physics.

Defintly one of the worst teachers at drexel. Its not that its hard to understand him because of his accent, its the fact that you can concievebly understand him but hes not saying anything of value. The homework problems aren't too hard, its just that they only help for the quizzes. The midterm and final are much harder and you DEFINTLY will be underprepared. Our class average for the midterm was a 52 and he reluctantly scaled the grades making a 75 an A, 60-75 B and so on. its terrible that this course is required for premed majors just because of this teacher. Make sure you learn a lot from your TA's if you have any hope of achieving a good grade in this class.

Hands down the worst professor I have ever had. Clearly Dr. Yuan is a very smart man, but he has no idea how to translate his knowledge to his students. Curving to mask failure is unacceptable and Drexel should treat it as such if they ever want to become a prestigious university. It is obvious that Drexel keeps this man employed because of his credentials rather than teaching ability.
The fact that this man is still employed after the pathetic curve that was created just to pass the vast majority of the class is insulting to me as a student and paying Drexel consumer. We pay a high price to get a good education, not to get stuck in a class no one can pass unless a 45% is curved to a "C". We should demand more from Drexel and stop letting them tote Professors' research achievements to the collegiate world while blatantly ignoring alarming teaching failures.
Complaining is nice when you need to vent, but if you want to do something for yourself and the students that come after you, voice your concerns! Write your advisor and COAS Dean. This is unacceptable!

Really bad at teaching the material and puts hard questions on the tests to make things worse. He does curve alot because 80% of the class is failing, so if you can stay ahead of the avg, then try it out. The TA's do a better job at teaching, mine TA's name was Donna, she taught me everything. Also, there are two HW problems every week that are required (not too bad) and u'll have to teach urself how to do them, because they will be graded for the correct answer and work.

He explains things quickly. If you don't get it, you have to speak up. He understands the difficulty of the class and lets you decide the pace. If you do the work and ask questions its an easy B.

He knows his stuff but isnt the best at teaching it. His english is funny at best and his lectures are boring. But if you do the homework and go recitation you have a good chance at getting a B.
