Many of the previous comments listed here are true - she assigns a lot of reading, she's a tough grader, she expects a lot. My issue is that these things seem to have been presented as adverse things. You will work for every point you earn in her class, and it will be hard, but it will be worth it. My abilities as a writer, reader, and thinker have been challenged tremendously in Yusin's classes and I am all the better for it.
She will meet you on your terms, she is a caring and compassionate individual, and if you're not a total "focker", she won't be either.
Cons: -Does not lecture you because "there is no correct interpretation of the assigned reading"
-Keeps the class clueless about what she wants from students
In my ENGL320 with her we were studying Coetzee. It was not clear what she wanted from us at first, and what interpretation of the reading was at least going into the right direction. Does not really go over what she wants to see in the papers. Did not tell certain people in this class who needed to shut the fuck up to shut the fuck up. Unless you are an English or philosophy major you have nothing to do in this class. She is not going to give you a break just because you are taking this course to fulfill your requirement. Also, if you want to express your opinion you will frequently have to just shout it out because that is the format of the her class: you get interrupted by the people who need to shut the fuck up. All in all she is a good teacher that makes you think critically and work a lot to get an A.
P.S. Before student evaluations I asked her whether she could skim my final paper first draft. She said yes. After student evaluations I asked her again to remind her and she said no. I guess she really did not have time, but the way it looked was not courteous.
Research project that she doesnt really go over,
She wanted to do "popcorn reading" like we were in first grade.
Overall, one of the best professors at Drexel.

I'll admit that she is a tough grader on papers but her exams are not hard if you do the reading. I average on the papers was a C+/B- but since I went to class and participated I managed to get an A-. Her in class final was easy but her take home was a bit challenging.
If you're looking for a class to sleep through, this is not it. She assigns a lot of reading and challenges her students to think critically. If you're looking to get the most out of your education, this is definitely the class to take -- your brain will be tasked to analyze, think, and communicate. She pushes her students hard, not as punishment, but to help them realize that they are much, much smarter than they think.
If you're looking to sleep through class, breeze through with a C+, and not learn anything worthwhile, don't take this class. If you're looking to grow as a person, take in some bangin' literature, and expand your intellectual horizons, definitely look it up.
Yusin is awesome. She gives brownie points if you buy her bagels.
P.S. - She's kind of short, though. :-\
She does assign a lot of reading but nothing that's impossible to do. She doesn't even require a lot of writing, just thought provoking conversation in class. All of the books we've read were interesting and the knowledge she has is overwhelming. She knows what she's talking about and also respects students' opinions.
I don't know why anyone would say that they would die if they take this class...I'm obviously still alive and so are you to be typing that. Where is the relevance in that statement? Really?
Go pick up a book for a change!
P.S. she's like, so totally short though.
