Pros: Jeff is a great guy. Funny, engaging classes where he gives out a lot of candy. Lectures are actually useful for understanding the material. Jeff will ultimately make you a better programmer whether you like it or not
Cons: Class is a ton of work. He'll warn you to get started early and those that do are usually always better off. His lecture slides and lab instructions leave a lot to be desired.
Again, class is a lot of work. Start things early and ask him as many questions about the homework/labs as you can, as soon as you can.

Course is a lot of work
Jeff is a great guy and now my favorite CS professor. He makes lectures fun. He gives out candy and incentives for participating in class, including betting on correct answers. The class is the most work of any CS class I've taken so far, but it's not necessarily DIFFICULT - just a lot of work. He teaches you import principles that you will hopefully carry on for the rest of your career. Be prepared to put about 5-8 hours/week. 1 midterm, he went over what would be on it, and same for the final - it was fair. Talk to him if you're having trouble, he's understanding.

Pros: Very intelligent, helpful to students who ask, rewards for correct answers/trying
Salvage is awesome. He's extremely intelligent and explains concepts in a way that anyone can understand. He's very understanding when it comes to you needing extra help.

Easy class. You don't need to go to class, just make sure you go to the labs. All you have to do is complete the lab and you get a 100, plus the TA's help with anything you need while doing the lab. He is really into himself, but it's amusing. He's always happy and smiling

Look. He's obsessed with himself. Hands down. But he's a good teacher. You don't ready need to go to lecture but there was one you have to go to towards the end of the term. Defintely go to labs and do the extra credit portion of the labs and its a defintely an A.

Grah! I would have dropped his class if I had a choice. Salvage is a very arrogant professor who absolutely doesn't care about how much you learn. I went to him for help and he kept acting like he wanted to tell me to piss off and not bother him. And he can't teach either. Don't take his class if you can help it. You'll just end up being very confused unless you have a nice TA.

DIFFICULT!!!Avoid him at all costs! He's VERY biased. If he decides in week 1 that he hates you, don't expect more than a C in the end. I was hoping I'd learn something in his class, but all he ever does is talk about the Red Sox for the 10 mins, explain the lab for 5 mins, and then leave you to complete the lab. Which is impossible, because he doesn't teach anything. Take this class only if you ALREADY know the material.

The man has no ego and is a total dork (in a good way!) so I have no clue why people are saying he's arrogant. The class was easy enough because if you have used a computer at all you can do the labs. I learned a few tricks about microsoft programs, so it was worth it to get the easy A.

He is a really strange man. He says to attend all lectures but after the first couple no one goes. Even though it does make your grade drop. The class is only three credits but class is an hour and half long and the labs are two hours. The usually last about an hour or so. It is extremely tedious , and the TAs are not very nice. The labs are probably the most annoying of everything because they take so long to do.Relatively easy grader and a nice guy. Doesnt normally take attendance.

I hated the material that is CS. I don't know anything about computers, and salvage gets that. He knows that the majority of the kids in his class don't care at all about what he is saying, and he makes class kind of fun. I never went to lecture, never read, and just studied before the exam. I still got a 72 on the midterm and a 46 on the final. He curves so much I still got a B. GO TO LAB! that is how you pass. It is just retyping stuff that is in front of you. Waste of time...yes. Worth it...Totally.

I think his class sucked. I could careless about CS in general and I thought he was cocky. Class was so stupid...I mght have been able to follow along if I spoke computer-nerd....but he does curve so thats one plus. I think I got a 65 on the midterm and a 50 on the final and I got a B somehow. That was pretty sweet. Other than that tho....eh. I bet people would HATE him if he didn't curve.

He drives a BMW convertible, cares more about his real job, and never shuts up about sports. But I stopped going to lecture after about three weeks and still got a B. Just go to lab and sit behind someone who knows what's going down.

He tries to make the lecture as fun as possible but it doesn't get him far. Lectures are a waste, the final is rediculous and so is having to take this class, which will do nothing to help me in the business world. At least the labs were alright. I sold his book on eBay, too, and got some cash, a consolation prize.

He tries to be funny but hes not. His lectures are boring and he just rambles. The final had the worst grammer I have ever seen in my life. The class averge was a 60 on the final you'd think he'd get the idea that he's not good at teaching.

i thought he was really funny, he did fool around alot in class, so we did not really cover much. but he is interesting, he loves loves loves the yankees so if he asks who your fav team is, tell him the yankees and he will like you. lol. dont let your cell go off in his class or else you have to bring in candy for your entire class! i liked him, i thought he was funny and made things interesting, bc i am not good with computers. i would take him again.

He is great. He makes the class fun. Plus you dont need to go to the vending machine either. He explains good, encourages class participation and answers questions. Make sure you take notes during class for assignments. I would take retake it this course or any course with him without a question.

There are definitely worse SC professors out there than Jeff. He actually makes the lectures pretty interesting and sometimes fun. He says that everyone is going to fail his course, but it is all an act. The tests were extemely fair and the labs straightfoward. The only way to fail is to not show up to lab and not do the work.

Well...there is just so much to say....but the most important is...when he wears his blue and yellow striped shirt...I cant even look at him because all I can think is steve from Blues Clues...and he even tells you he is gonna fail everyone for the final...and he def favors guys..one in particular...but hey....

Class was a lot of work, but the work wasn't hard as long as you went to class. Big programming assignment at the end, but wasn't too hard becuase of the past assignments, just a lot of programming. As long as you send in all your work, running or not, and attend class, you will get an a or b.

Jeff is one of those few computer science guys that are really charismatic. Teaches concepts really well and allows the class to debate. He gets distracted fairly easy but overall is a great guy. He graduated from Drexel and knows the ropes. If you listen carefully he will teach you some of the intangibles you will need when you are out in the real world. This is a great class to take if you have a "know it all" type of person in your class.
