Pros: Helps with students who are struggling with projects if they visit him during office hours
Grades out of 115
Cons: Hard to understand
Goes VERY QUICKLY through problems
Skips over parts (that he thinks are easily understood) when writing out problem on board
Does creepy thing with his eyebrows
I THINK he might curve final exam and/or grade (in addition to being out of 115)
Changes syllabus frequently
A lot of classtime is wasted by him rambling on
Jim Donnelly (aka THE party animal) knows math very well, despite the fact that he says otherwise. His problem lies in his ability to communicate and teach his knowledge. He makes many decisions based off of the fact that he thinks you know certain things already. He also changes his syllabus frequently: he went from collecting our homeworks on Mondays - to collecting our homeworks on Wednesdays - to not collecting our homeworks at all and just giving us quizzes based off the homework problems. He did all of that in the span of 2 weeks.
When doing problems on the board he will:
--go very fast (you will fall behind)
----talk out parts instead of writing them out (so if you are trying to catch up on writing everything down it seems like he pulls numbers out of nowhere)
--frequently skip parts he thinks you know (or talks them out [see above])
--mess up very often
----if you point out his mistake (he is very nice and understanding about it and he does truly appreciate it) but a lot of time will be wasted because he will retrace all of his steps to find out what you are talking about instead of just looking at the line you are referring to

Pros: If you understood all the homework and knew everything before he "taught" it, you'd be ok.
Cons: He just did examples without explaining anything
The MATLAB projects were very hard. I needed help on all of them.
He pretty much didn't teach. And wasn't too helpful.

Pros: To describe Jim Donnelly in one word: Fair.
Do the homework sets, go to class, and put in a little extra, then you're guaranteed an A. He is a nice man. He wants you to do well. He has high expectations for Drexel's education of engineers and that really is a good thing for us.
Cons: 1. Doesn't like slowing down to explain theory (At least for this class). He's correct in the fact that he does not have enough time to teach the material that is required by the course.
2. Strict grader, doesn't give much partial credit.
I thought it was a good experience.

Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything
In his lectures he doesn't take his time to show his steps or the explanations of theorems, he moves too quickly to be understood and frequently makes errors. If you are poor/moderately good at this clac, don't take it. If you have already taken calc, still wouldn't recommend it. I took calc once before, but I had to retake because by the time I understood the material it was too late. He teaches extremely advanced calc. If you are engineering maybe that kind of math is necessary, but I'm not. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Pros: He's actually a good teacher
Cons: He's kind of ridiculous.
He knows how to teach math102. He gives plenty of examples, entertains questions, has extra help sections. But he is crazy! He says some really funny shit. I was tweet quoting him all class when I had him. I will say, He's kind of sexist because he's like 70 or something. But I guess if you're a dude, he's a great teacher.

He's actually not a bad teacher. He does lots of examples in the book and lets students ask questions if they dont understand something clearly. His quizzes are pretty straightforward and nothing to be surprised about. As you know in 102 the test are department so I can't grade him based on test results because he didn't completely make up all the questions.

FUCKING BOSS
Cons: Sometimes you wonder if he's taken all of his meds.
Jim is a fucking BOSS. I'll be the first to admit I suck at math yet his lectures are clear and to the point. He does make mistakes in his lectures every now and then but its not much more than other math professors. He cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. He can be a little out there and can get distracted easily but it makes the class more enjoyable. He likes to know his students and will call on you from time to time, but only to make sure you are understanding.

Pros: Good guy at heart
Funny
Does MANY examples
Cons: He's all over the place
It's clear that this guy has the hookups as he is most definitely smoking the good shit before class. He's easily distracted and in general all over the place which causes him to make frequent mistakes while doing the in-class examples. That said, he does genuinely care for his students and wants them to do well. He will help you in every way he can and will do any problem you ask. Do your homework and you will do well in his class. Would take again.

Donnelly can't teach to save his life. He constantly calls out his students and try to embarrass them. DO NOT TAKE

He might seem like a hard ass on the outside...but he genuinely cares about his students. EXTREMELY fair. Might be a strict disciplinarian but if you follow everything he asks you to do...you will get an A. always available for office hours and exams are pretty straightforward...very similar to review sheets

I had him for Calc 2 and thought he was great. But I'm not convinced he's competent of teaching Calc 4. Most classes he just rushes through examples on the board, sometimes making mistakes

Professor Donnelly is one of the best teachers I have had at Drexel. He actually wants students to succeed, especially with his review questions. He also takes time out of his day in order to help review for all the midterms and the final. If you actually pay attention in class and do the homework, you're guaranteed a good grade.

Differential Equations was a very tough course. Donnelly put a lot of his spare time into helping the students with the class, and put a lot of effort into helping the class with the concepts.
Always seemed excited, even when completely beat and tired, always managed to keep his spirits up no matter what.
I would retake Donnelly, but I wouldn't retake Differential Equations.

He's really not all that bad. Actually, he's very good. I'm guessing that most of the students that wrote bad reviews didn't do the homework (which he doesn't check, so it's up to the students), therefore didn't do well on the quizzes, therefore didn't get good grades, therefore are just taking their frustrations out on here. A nice guy and a little overbearing during class, but willing to help out any student at any time on anything math-related. His quizzes are difficult if you don't know the material, but isn't that what quizzes are supposed to be? He mostly teaches the derivations of different methods to solving problems and does examples with them. Most importantly, he knows what he's doing-- sometimes it's just difficult to follow his spastic teaching persona.

I thought Jim was great! He did expect you to attend class and do your work, but he generally cared for every students well being. He knew the students by name and made the classroom take on a more personal atmosphere. He isn't the greatest at explanation, I'll give you that, but he does problems a million times over so if you don't understand how to do it by the 30th problem, there's no hope. He does all the work on the board and will do ANY problem you ask him to work out! He's funny and a nice guy!

CRAPPITY CRAP CRAP...this is the worst class ever...he does not know what he is talking about...he makes a billion mistakes in lecture and if you write - 3 instead of + 3 he cuts 5 points of on 10 such an absolute fool...grading is his whim two of my friends made the exact same mistake on two q s and they got different grades...PLEASE STAY AWAY from this teacher the night class and hicks was so much easier...and unless he is a heavy curver, over 75% of the class is going to fail...the averages on quizzes so far are 65 and 65 so yeah there

basically just stay away from this one, at first he seems like he'll be funny but then you realize he can't teach and you don't learn a thing (The TAs are the only ones with a clue). Tests are hard and if it wasn't for the analogous review packets you'd get smoked every time.

Great teacher, though very animated. GIves fair quizzes, tests, etc. If you do the homework and take the time to make sure you know the material you will do very well in his class. Really cares about making sure the students know the material and are following along.

Donnelly was a great teacher, he cares about his students and always offered to help during his office hours and he wanted every student of his to do great. He posts mock exams on his website which if you understand, you'll do fine on the test. This guy cracks me up int he middle of class with how animated he can be, but it made me pay attention and because of him my Calc grade improved dramatically.

Never, never, never take Donnelly for tDEC 110. He is the worst teacher I have ever had. All he cares about is blowing through his slides. He cant do half the problems he attempts to go over in lecture, I will be amazed if I pass his worthless class. Drexel, please fire him. Cant wait for bull-shit 113, I mean, tDEC 113.
