You can get away with doing minimal effort, as long as you pass the two tests and the group project.
Don't need the textbook, but if you want you can find it online or use an old copy.
Cons: Lectures are hit or miss, either funny and interesting or boring and time wasting.
Group project requires significant effort from multiple people. If you have a bad group, you will be stressed out and not do well.
She doesn't let you use laptops if she feels no one's listening.
It's not difficult to get an A in her class. The grading is 60% project, 30% midterm and final, and 10% online responses. She doesn't check the online responses but do them anyway, they're easy. Find the textbook online so you can search for the keywords when you're doing the online tests. You can retake the final to get a 100 if you need to. Get started on the group project immediately. Split up the work early and assign parts, it pays off in the end. Put more effort into your presentation, I don't think she thoroughly reads every group's 15 page paper but she definitely watches your presentation. Make it good! Overall she's a good professor, definitely recommend.
She is kind of funny/sarcastic
GPA booster
Cons: Disorganized
Project is a pain in the ass
Won't really learn much
Eydis is a little bit crazy, but her class is very easy and straightforward. Almost impossible to get a bad grade. The group project is the worst part- as you just randomly get assigned a group of some people who are clueless, some who are jerks, and some who never show up. The exams are pretty easy. You probably won't learn much, but at least she is sort of funny and the class is not difficult at all.
willing to help students
is very understanding/flexible
Cons: didn't teach material very well
went through powerpoints
most of class time was spent with discussion outside of class material
doesn't answer emails
I took an online hybrid and my experience may have been different compared to others. Professor Olsen is a very nice person. She was understanding and flexible with my schedule/obligations (just tell her in class). The class itself wasn't hard, I read the textbook and did well. She didn't lecture much, most of class time was devoted to discussion. There is one major group project -- she is very open to how you want to approach it. I suggest planning ahead, if possible. Overall, she wasn't a bad teacher. Plus, she's very intelligent and Icelandic
If most people do poorly, she curves tests. If she sees you are awesome in group/attendance/participation, she will boost your test score to suit. NO C grades!
Very funny, sarcastic, insightful, experienced person. Previous Drexel student-- gets the ridiculousness of 10 weeks to "learn" things.
Cons: Two online tests-- 1st 30 questions, 2nd 50 questions. Comes from her inventory of 400+ computed random questions. Some easy, some hard to decipher.
Group project--- hell if you have a group of slackers, entitled jerks, or the worst... the ones who can't EVER remember to check their emails.
Book---- useful, but not necessary.
Be extremely careful about choosing your project group.
She is flexible and helpful, but selective with email responses. Don't expect a spectacular learning experience... it's a quick zip through terminology, a little concept thinking, listening to your classmates talk and complain to each other, people walking out of class randomly, and finally... a group project with is specifically meant to teach everyone about different issues and ideas in varying countries.
Take it with a grain of salt. Get an A. Sit up front. She takes attendance and will start a new list towards the end if people walk out.
Cons: ALL GROUP WORK
Really random lectures
Slides don't follow textbook
She's very nice but rarely teaches and never answers her emails. 90% of your grade is based off of group work and I personally hate that because you may get stuck with people who don't want to work. Midterms can be googled and you can do the quizzes in a group. Your project is your most important grade so make sure you get a good group!
Cons: Doesn't teach much
Never answers emails
Doesn't help students
Basically I didn't learn anything in this class. I think there was a glitch in the system for our midterm and I emailed her and she didnt answer me. I emailed her again with a question about my project and she still didn't answer me and she is out of class before you have a chance to come talk to her. She doesn't really care about her students and she doesn't really teach but it's not that hard of a class so it can be an easy A or B depending on if you know how to self teach.
Means well and wants everyone to do well.
Material is easy to understand.
Midterm is easy.
Final is moderate.
Light workload (outside of the project which tends to be time consuming at times).
Cons: Takes a very long time to answer emails.
Lectures are basically her reading off the slides.
Project is so/so especially since it is done in an online format.
Discussions are pretty pointless.
Hard to understand at times.
***ONLINE CLASS REVIEW***
Take this class if you want a rather easy online class.
INTB is pretty much common sense and a bunch of definitions.
Cons: Almost no cons. If anything, some may not like having many small quizzes or the need to memorize/read a lot of text material and staying current with the news
Great teacher with experience in international relations. Adheres very closely to the curriculum and her syllabus, but also tells countless and memorable anecdotes/stories from her past experiences. She is highly cultured and has a great sense of humor. She is always up-to-date with the current news headlines and knows what is popular in terms of culture in the US. Gives many exams and quizzes, but is very lenient and drops the lowest quiz grades out of the bunch. 1 project was very simple and fun to complete. I recommend her
The book is very easy to read and the chapters aren't that long. It's important to read them and keep up with the chapters. She gives 2 quizzes and they come faster than you think. The good thing is after studying for the quizzes you don't really have to study much more for the exams. She's kind with grading, especially on exams. She takes attendence.
Personally, I will try to retake her again.
