Pros: None
Cons: Everything about this class is a con
I've been in 400 level classes that don't have as big of a workload as this elective class. She crams several chapters down your throat per class, assigns 2 massive research papers, and 2 exams that cover all of the chapters that were previously crammed down your throat. The final is also cumulative.

Pros: Lenient and is willing to help, especially if you have your back against the wall with other school work
Cons: Doesn't know how to construct a class; very wishy washy as to what she wants; not straight forward; doesn't answer emails
She'll receive a 1 out of 5 stars just because she's lenient and is willing to work with you. What I thought was suppose to be a fun class turned into a nightmare. The reading is actually fun and enjoyable, and the notebooks in the class weren't so bad..it's just the papers. Whatever you see on the requirements for the papers, just get your source verified and freeball it. Literally you can write and think it's the best paper in the world knowing that you fulfilled what she asked; but hey let's face it, this woman doesn't even follow what she wants so how can you give a woman who can't follow her own directions. She'll tell you one thing, but you end up exerting all of your time and energy to make amends to the rough draft, then she'll turn around and tell you the complete opposite. Before you know it, you'll be writing 10 rough drafts (4 of which you are still turning in after the deadline) until you have a "successful" final draft.
Don't get me started on her not answering her emails. If you're an engineer and took Miller, she makes Miller look like FDR (yes I said it, I would take Miller anyday over this woman). Seriously this class needs a pre req being that she assumes everyone knows the entire family tree (do you know how many NAMES and CONNECTIONS are comprised in there?!) The kicker is, she tells us in the beginning how names aren't important, and yet you end up having to memorize over 30+ names. NEVER TAKE THIS TEACHER EVER!

HARD grader, and if she doesn't like your writing, you won't ever get a good grade in this class. She offers rewrites as a chance to bring your grade up, but if she's decided that your writing doesn't fit her tastes then you're screwed. There are weekly journals, and if you don't do them don't expect a good grade, obviously. If you are taking her for Engl 105, do the summer reading!! She's one of the few Engl professors who actually uses Freshman summer reading books in her class.

Before anyone even thinks about taking this teacher, just dont. I dont know how this teacher is tenured or has been at Drexel as long as she has. She picks her favorites and ignores or bugs everyone else. She is so stuck in her miserable head she wont listen to any opinions that are different from her own. Assigns too much work for a 3 credit elective. We must have read 10 100-200 page books throughout the course. And written "notebooks" on all of them. Didnt send back any of our work on time....makes rude comments during class...tries to make fun of students and make them feel dumb...horrible horrible witch.

Curiously, this woman is more interested in resolving issues only up to a certain point; if during the year something goes wrong--namely with online assignments and their accessibility to that of students, as Drexel has a dangerous love-affair with--she is more than willing to correct any issues with it. However, as soon as issue is brought up AFTER the term is over--all bets are off. It is a complete outrage one would have to run the risk of failing a course simply because his professor is deficient in accessing e-mails. And then for Dr. Thury to have the audacity to suggest he RETAKE THE LESSER LEVEL OF THE COURSE and accept his failing grade? "A joke in poor taste." With my compliments.

Why the hell would anyone take a course with this evil person? She's thinks too much of herself, has no understanding of how to teach, grades unfairly and bullies her students to make up for the lack of love in her own life.
You won't learn anything from her that a 101 couldn't have taught you (if not an okay english teacher in high school). Her class takes up more time than any other and the material isn't interesting. Any interesting material you do find, she finds a way to make you hate it. So many re-writes.
She's a terrible woman. Don't take her!!!!!! Seriously: AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!! Spend another semester at Drexel if you have to or take a summer course, just look out for this nasty, abomination of a "human" being.

I read the reviews on Dr. Thury prior to the class but needed the class so figured I would give her a fair chance. The reviews weren't lying. I ended up with an A, but it was by FAR the hardest course I have taken at Drexel and I am a senior at Lebow. STAY FAR FAR FAR away. In 10 weeks we read 13 yes 13 novels (ranging from 150-300 pages) and 2-4 articles on top of that per week. All for a 3 credit prereq english course I needed for a graduation requirement. I even complained to both her boss's who basically told me to shut up because they didn't get to pick the workload we were given. such SHIT!

This is in no way a malicious comment, she actually is as terrible as everyone said.
As a tenured professor she can get away with assinging rediculous amounts of readings during each week, daily journals, and multiple exams. Anyone who has any hope of getting a good grade has to give up social lives, or the amount of time they put into other courses. For this class there were 8 short stories/novels assigned over the 10 week period, one of them being over 650 pages long, and several being very dense critical essays. The amount of class discussion is very little and students are expected to remembered meaningless characters. 50% of the class was lucky to drop by the end of the drop period, and those of us who endured the full 10 weeks suffered from lack of sleep, impossible exams, and trashy romance novels. The only hope for those remaining was to band together and study, because there is no way that a student can handle this course on their own.
Also, be prepared to spend at least 10-15 min of class time watching her struggle with technology she does not understand (Bb Vista, dvds, projection screens, etc)
My GPA is now decimated and my hopes of graduating with honors are gone, due to this class.

If you plan on taking her, be prepared for ENDLESS reading and pointless writing assignments. One of the worst English professors I've ever had at Drexel. Thury has completely robbed me of my interest in the mystery story (furthermore, my interest in the written language). She assigns reading that no one is able to keep up with— unless you're taking only one course for the quarter or you have absolutely no social life, DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH EVA THURY.

This 3 credit course required around 6 hours outside of class per week on reading and writing assignments. No other course I've taken has been such a massive amount of work for so few credits. And the first two weeks were spent reading poetry translated from French, Russian, and German into English. Absolutely ridiculous; poetry just doesn't translate.

She is worst than worst... there are no words that can tell how mean she is. no one has ever told me "SLEEP LESS SO U CAN FINISH THE BOOK THAT I GAVE U" this is just ridiculuous. she thinks she is the only teacher in Drexel, but actually SHE IS NOT EVEN A TEACHER!!! she is a mess...not to mention her office, in which she keeps losing ur papers...she doesnt give any feedback and when u ask her to explain sth that u didnt get, she even confuses u more cos she doesnt know what her assignments are supposed to mean. she has her favorite students and she picks on the other ones. and the syllabus.. it is sth that keeps changing, if not everyday, everyweek. there is no way u can keep up with it. in a 10 week course, she made us read 6 (300-600 page) books. and u had to write a notebook entry once every two days.no one in the class could keep up with readings but U HAVE TO cos she asks about every single tiny detail that takes place in the book (how the architecture of some building was, which was sth we never even paid, and would never pay attention to in a mystery story).
DO NOT TAKE HER EVEN IF U R DESPERATE.. SHE'LL MAKE U HATE UR LIFE...

This was a horrible experience. The class is disorganized - half the time we didn't even really understand what the essay topic was until after we'd written a rough draft! She was extremely condescending to students. She claimed there was "no wrong way to interpret writing" and then would argue with you when you proposed something she didn't agree with. She was extremely disorganized. She uses WebCT like it's going out of style but the page is confusing and half the time her links are broken. Her class was an absolute chore. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS! I can't emphasize that enough.

Thinks everyone plagorizes everything... Makes you write the four papers about ten times so really you have like a major paper a week. Sometimes your doing a rough draft of one paper, a final draft of another paper, and rewriting one or two other papers all at the same time. She gives readings and journals which are very long and hard. Lectures are unrelated to course material and she goes on tangents about her hippy nature. I busted my ASS off in this class and eventually got the A I deserved, but I was one of the very lucky few. Avoid taking this class if possible.

Thury has a very unorganized syllabus that constantly is changing. The workloads is much greater than other Eng 105 classes. There are 2 notebook (responses) due a week and 4 papers. I had to rewrite three of the four papers I wrote. I got C- and even an F on my original papers, which I spent many hours on. However after rewriting, I recieved an A. So essentially you have to do the work twice. She accuses people for plagairizing, so be careful. Overall, not a great teacher at all. She does not give clear directions and the purposes of the essays are ambiguous at times. But if you work (meaning rewrite), she'll reward you. Despite my troubles with my essays, with the rewrites, I got an A in the class.

aweful teacher. she couldn't stop talking. her opinion is law. she will ask for your opinion, cut you off, and then, if you try to complete your point she will say "dont interupt."
alot of reading. she is imfatuated with Ginsberg's "Howl." make sure you read this cause everything in the class is compared to it.
Tests are hard and she does them online. but not from home, you go to a Lab and do the test online.
she will explain things of little importance for half the class. tell you the background of her family for 15min to compare to a sentence in a poem; if you ask for further explanation on the homework journals she will dismiss you and say "i have explained it before."
AWEFUL! DONT TAKE HER!

I had her for online English 103. She was so horrible and looks like a mess. I could not even tell that the picture above was her. When I met her in her office, her hair practicaly had leaves in it, her breath reaked, and she smelled. She is a train wreck. She hates Drexel students. Kids were still dropping her class on Friday of Week 10 because they thought they could make it through. DO NOT TAKE HER!

DO NOT TAKE HER! She got her degree from UPENN and hates Drexel students. I had her for an online class and the workload was enormous and she so stuck up her own ass. She knows Drexel does not value its English department and takes it out on us. So many students dropped her class it was rediculous. I got a D.

I had little problems with Eva because I tried to ignore her as much as possible and focus instead on completing the homework assignments. She does, however, not explain her expectations in her swipe file assignments so you will continually resubmit them and see little improvement. At least she allows 'infinite' resubmissions, time permitting. However, her own convictions are strong enough to interfere with her grading and teaching methods, often contradicting students and messing up the grading system. Not cool. Wouldnt take her again

This is by far the worst teacher I have encountered durring my four years at Drexel. She turns what should be a fun class into a horrible nightmare. She continually tries to prove her smarts and make this class something it is not. She grades extreamly harshly and sticks my her policies like they were written by Zeus himself. Only take this class if you are really into reading and useless analitical mythological theology. This course should have pre-reqs.
