I wish I did not take this class.
He canceled two classes this term, and barely response emails. It was really hard to communicate with him.
He delayed the first test and the first paper. The first test should be on week3, but we had it on week5. The paper should be due on week5, but we actually first talked about the paper on week5, and it was eventually due on week7. Thus, our second test we on week8 and third test on week9, and we still have a take home exam on finals week. He gave so much work! Not really responsible. He gave you the topics that will be covered in the test, but they are useless. Because when you take the test, you will notice that many questions are not under then topics that he gave to you. He test you many details. Even though he gave you two chances to take the test, it is still hard to find the answer for four chapters. He even gave you the question that was not in the reading chapters.
It was ok at the beginning of the term, but by the end of the term, it was such a pain taking his class.

Pros: He is always willing to help you. There is one final paper submission, and two Quizes taken online. He is an easy professor and extends the deadline if you talk to him.

Pros: Easy on grading

Multiple choice tests frequently given
Cons: A lot of reading
Videos every week
Accent (Ghana) is hard to understand at first, but you get used to it
Very easy on grading, especially on written work. Requires a lot of class discussion, and will walk up to you and ask questions point-blank. Heavy reading load, sometimes 40 pages a week and a 1-1/2 hour movie, often posted a day or two before class. Discussion questions every week posted on BBLearn. Flexible on paper length - once asked for a one page answer, but accepted half a page from most of the class. Definitely a participation-based class. Everyone WILL be asked to answer questions several times throughout the course. Overall, good class, just read and discuss concepts/ideas. I got an A.

Dr. Koku is the MAN! He is really nice and knows a lot about medical sociology. He does have a bit of an accent, but I didn't find it hard to understand him. I took him over the summer and I'm sure thats what played a part in it being such a fun class. He took us outside for class sometimes, and he even would bring his kids to class- which was funny because they would occasionally make interesting commentary... The tests were something you had to study for, but he tells you exactly what pages in the book to go over for it. Also if he try to assign the in class projects- choose one of the later ones, we didn't make through even half of them.

Pros: Professor Koku is a very nice professor. He gives two exams, and one final (take home). They are all open book, open note, etc. In addition, the two exams are take home and taken online via BbVista.
There are homework assignments that are designed to help you understand the material better. If you have trouble, he is always willing to help you.
Overall, he's a great professor.

At first it was kind of hard to understand what he was saying, but once I got the hang of his accent, his class was a breeze. He made the topic very interesting and gave work that actually helped me understand the points of sociology. Would definitely take his class again.

Coursework is fairly heavy, 3 tests, 1 final and 2 papers. The tests are all essays, so you will have to read and write a lot. But the class is eye opening and very worth while. I think this should be a mandatory class as it is very enlightening. Attendance is req. and it is best if you buy the txtbook, its pretty cheap. Class is heavy on discussion and participation but he never calls you out if you don't want to participate.

Coming from the best university in Canada, Professor Koku's expectation is a lot higher than most. The class was relaxed but the amount of reading was intense. Sociology of development itself is a field of study altogether, trying to understand it in 10 weeks of class is overwhelming.

Really, really caring professor. he provides good, timely feedback. I wouldn't think twice about taking one of his courses again. quizes and essays for this course were extremely reasonable. He gave us extensions so that students were not overwhelmed.Workload could have been a bit lighter though.

One of the best professors I've had last term. I was generally very skeptical about taking the course, but I'm glad I did because it reinforced whatever knowledge of the topics discussed in class I had already had. Plus, Dr. Koku really cares about his students :)
