No HW, quizzes, or unexpected assignments. He made a scrolled book, which will save you on tests. $20--- buy it!!!
Cons: Tests almost every other week. Many types of topics, which start to feel too similar to differentiate in the heat of a test. Huge lecture.... many students asking about advanced info.
He is a jokester. Wants everyone to learn. Available, all the time. But..... he's short-fused. Passion translates to frustration when questions are about old things we should know from week 1.
Drops the lowest of 4 tests. DO NOT blow off the first or second test. Grades improve with each test, and the 4th is the hardest IMO. You will want the first two to back up your grade. There's a cumulative curve, but not significant. A bump from B+ to A-.
Puts in a great deal of effort to make sure you understand the material.
No need to buy the book.
Cons: Hard exams but they're open book.
Missing 1 class with cause you to miss like a third of the exams questions.
Hands down the best professor I've taken at Drexel. Took finance 2 other times with different professors who taught out of the book at frankly didn't care if you learned or not. When you ask a question sometimes he puts you on the spot but he will give a 10 minute lecture just to make sure you personally understand the material. Going to class is a must! He teaches everything out of his handbook and goes over the material in great detail. If you go to class, it makes studying so much easier. TAKE HIM NOW!
Grade only based off 4 exams
Cons: Confusing formulas
Lowest exam is dropped
This professor is great & has his students' best interests in mind. He is easy to approach, and very understanding. The only problem is that your grade is based only off 4 exams. Just make sure to go office hours, especially with the TA. Luckily, the tests were open notes, so it wasn't too bad.
Weighs according to best ratio
No quizzes, homework, etc.
Knows his stuff, funny guy
Cons: Exams WILL take you the 4 hours
Formulas can get confusing
Professor Fich was an amazing professor. At first, I thought the 4 hour class would be tiresome, but I'm glad I took it because he made the time go by quite quickly. He constantly makes jokes in class, real life stories (some made up), and is an overall great guy. He knows his content, and tries to really make sure his students understand it. His grading policy is great, and you are graded according to what ratio (test-wise) will get you the better overall average. Great class. Oh, grades are curved too. 86 for an A (example)
Cons: Repeat a couple phrase a lot, but it's nothing too bad.
Homework: None, but there are practice problems for your own good.
Quizzes: None.
Exams: 2 (1 midterm, 1 final). The problems are similar to the problems he have during lectures. You can bring everything and anything you want to the exam. Including textbook, notebook, his class note package (it's his lecture slides, highly recommend to buy, it's like $20), calculator manual, things you print from online, etc.
Grading: 60% for the exam with higher score, 40% for the other exam.
NO MAKE UP EXAMS!!!
Cons: Requires you to buy class notes
One of my favorite professors. Class notes are required and cost about $15, but they come in handy for tests (which are open book and notes) and for future reference if you a a finance major. Definitely recommend him and would take again.
'welcome to hollywood'
'if you make [so and so mistake] i will hunt you down and kill you like a dog'
My only complaint if you have to buy a set of notes for $13 from the book store. They are just slides, but he doesn't post them online (which would be cheaper). You'd be lost in this class without the notes though. They are definitely necessary.
He was well prepared and he knew his stuff... But his teaching method of giving you the formulas, and then giving you a bunch of problems kind of made it a dumb class. You really don't learn from that- you just learn how to plug and chug and pray that the question is formed the same way on the exams.
Oh, and his midterms are worth 40% of your grade, and the final 50-70% (weighing out the midterms)... If you don't buy his homework packet, you can kiss any passing grade goodbye (if you're not godly with finance like most of us).
He doesn't really care if you pass the course... But then again, which professors at Drexel really do? The material is hard, and his method requires that you go an extra bit to really understand it. The curves on the exams of 76% signify that a few students really didn't get it at all.
He is an easy professor if you stick to his notes and study the homework outside of class.
This is not true at all. I did not buy his book or his soln manual. For $9.00 you buy his power point handouts with sample problems. That is all I bought for his class and got a 91% on the second midterm and a 90% on the first. I am not a finance wiz(if you know how to add, divide, and multiply) you know enough math to get at least a B in his class. His class has little math you only need to understand when to use concepts.
Great teacher, hope he starts teaching upper level finance. He is caring and MORE than understanding (i.e, if you got above a 77% on the second midterm you got an A..pretty fair)
