Elaine is a very nice, down to earth person. She is a fair grader. She does give a decent amount of online work. Each week, my class had one primary post of 200 words, 2 secondary posts that each had to be 125 words, and a journal that has to be 300 words. Some of the readings for the posts were long, but some of the topics were interesting. At first, it seems like a lot of work, but once you get into the routine it isn't that bad. She gives quizzes sometimes, but they are only 5 questions and are super basic. If you read the readings then you'll always do well on the quizzes, and she usually includes a bonus question. The exercises we do in class are helpful. She could shorten them a bit, but overall she is a good teacher. She is also always willing to help and give you ideas for writing assignments. I would recommend her!

Not a bad teacher. Writing projects account for a large portion of the grade. A good amount of the online posts are expected, but she is lenient on the due dates. Above average grader as far as online posts and projects. Usually 5 question quiz on the required reading during the next class including an extra credit question.

Ms. Johanson was a great professor for Persuasive Writing. Her group exercises were helpful, especially since it transformed a lot of the cookie-cutter exercises from the Allan & Bacon book into meaningful exercises to improve your writing. She also is very caring and is willing to work with you to give you suggestions to improve your writing, which is extremely important, no matter what your major is.
Also, her focus on current issues on the discussion board allowed for an us to exercise more than just our English skills, but also our minds. It was also particularly interesting that she, herself, even responded to the discussions!

Sweet and caring.
You must finish all the posts every week and finish the reading before class. Then it is easy to get a good result.

This teaching, thinks that college classes, are actually 7th grade classes. She has made the class do jumping jacks, because she thought that we weren't awake enough in class. She also has a huge problem, with actually teaching. Instead she just splits you up into groups, and makes you teach yourself. On top of all this, she grades the online discussions with an iron fist. I completed most of them, if not all of them for the first 4 weeks, and still only received 60's and 70's. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHING IF YOU LIKE BEING TREATED AS AN ADULT AND NOT A CHILD. P.S. She won't let you text message in class, even if it's your grandmother's dying words.

has a tendency to be overly perky, which can be disarming in a negative way. There is a good deal of reading to do for five point quizzes that can be passed by guessing anyway. Also some prompts can get to be difficult to muster the words required and at the same time maintain the level she expects.
class tend to be formulaic with a quiz short amount of talking, forced 10 min writing exercise on a random topic that is difficult to do without any sort of real knowledge, then break into random groups. literally every single class.

Elaine is really sweet and TRULY cares for her students. Definitely have her check your essays before you hand them in, it's very much worth it. It was a pleasure being in her class
