Cons: A lot of work if you're not an Art History major
Here's the thing: If you don't like Art History, don't take the class. The negative reviews are most likely from people who don't even like art. If you like Art History and are willing to work hard, Morschecks the man. He's a tall, wiry old man who likes to gesture somewhat wildly when he talks and make frequent jokes. Some of them are a little off-color, but not often. Don't take them personally, I doubt he aims to be offensive. It's a lecture, he talks through the whole class (and a minute or two after) and will miss your hand if you're not determined enough to raise it assertively.
He's very nice, caring and lenient but will not tolerate plagiarism. Nowadays you'll fail the class if he catches you. He's not tech savy so he expects all of his papers printed, and the one paper that's expected of you in this class is about 6 pages. It's a combination of the two papers from 101: you choose a work of art from "the great big list" and talk about it. You're required to go to the library, borrow through ILLiad, use print sources and a whole bunch of other things. It's a lot of work and you should get started on it early. He'll say it's due around the 7th week but doesn't really care when you turn it in as long as it's in before the last day of class.
If you have to miss an exam, you have the option to make it up in person (even the final). Personally I thought this was easier but only if you really know your stuff. You'll meet him in his office and he'll show you pictures cut out of the book and ask you questions about them. You'll cover significantly less material than you would on the written exam but it'll be excruciating and embarrassing if you don't study extensivley.
Cons: Very Hard Tests, Goes really fast, doesn't give us notes, we have find each and every art piece from the big ass textbook without guidance.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He's really strict about his homework, I tried to write my paper two times and checked on plagiarism and he still said your paper is plagiarized. He doesn't appreciate your work. He's very rude. He made us sign the shit from librarian even tho he showed us the same thing what librarian did. Even the librarian basically said this dude needs to get a life. I would suggest not to take him.
Cons: A little dry
He talks a lot, hates technology, and knows absolutely everything about art history.
If you want to get a comprehensive understanding about art history, take Morscheck. If you aren't passionate about art though, you'll probably hate the class.
Cons: If you're serious about Art History he's the best in the department to take, however if you're not, the class can be a bit of an overload, especially on the two papers and exams.
He's also not for technology, and will make you do your reports IN the library.
Cons: He does not like modern electronics
I recommend studying the artwork listed on the big list when studying for the midterm and final because those are the only things that he will test you on. There is a lengthy paper you have to write by week 8.
2. The midterm was easy as long as you knew what he lectured. Nothing was a surprise. He let you know exactly what you needed to know.
3. You get to pick a work of art from anything that we covered. No deadline for the paper and you can rewrite it as many times as you want until you get an A.
4. very accommodating. I was not able to take the final on when scheduled and he was very helpful with rescheduling.
Cons: 1. Sometimes boring if you are not an art buff.
2. Don't take if you are planning on not putting any work/effort in. It's not hard but its not easy.
Cons: Exams are extremely difficult.
He let's you do the assignment again until you get an A
He doesn't have a deadline for anything you can turn papers in anytime
Cons: he's a little boring
He is always willing to help out if you have questions.
Great Professor, and I would take him again any day!!!
