Cons: Professor Farouk should not be allowed to teach anything to anyone. Not only does he not review his material before lecture and then fumble through his powerpoints ("What is this? Can someone explain this to me?"), but he also assigns problems that he himself has no idea how to solve. It is obvious that he hasn't reviewed any material in a very, very long time, and I'd be surprised if any of the positive reviews on here were written by actual students.
Cons: A bit too much work
The fluid dynmic movies were illustrative
- Enthusiastic and helpful instructor
Cons: High work load
Enthusiastic professor
Cons: Few example problems solved in class
Very interesting approaches to complex real life engineering issues.
Cons: The project was too extensive.
Cons: MATLAB knowledge required.
Maintains office hours
Excellent PowerPoint slides
Will explain homework problems if asked.
Really wants to help students
Challenging but good textbook
Cons: None
Good sense of humor
Depth in knowledge
Cons: Does not tolerate talking in class
Very interesting course
Cons: Doesn't want to help students outside of posted office hours (2-5pm).
Constantly has errors in his power points.
Rarely explains homework problems.
Goes off on tangents during class.
He doesn't seem to really want to help his students. His notes are disjointed and he picked a terrible book. He doesn't seem to understand his own presentations because he constantly gets confused by them. I would skip him if I could do it all over again.
Open book exams.
Cons: Just a bad teacher.
Does communicate well.
Farouk is a nice guy and clearly intelligent, but is just one of those professors that should only be teaching small graduate level classes where there's more student-professor interaction. A 200+ lecture on a confusing topic is just not a good set up for him. Read the textbook, put notes in the margins and bring it to exams, come to class just to get some extra credit. Do those things and you should do fine.
Cons: Bad attitude, terrible teaching method, difficult
Avoid heat transfer with Farouk if at all possible. If you do have him, then do not bother showing up to class. It is better to learn on your own. Terrible teaching methods, and often does not even know how to solve problems if you ask in class. Only pro is that he has office hours often, but is very rude if you actually go see him.
Cons: Doesn't teach the material
His lectures are terrible - they are just powerpoints with figures from the textbook. He doesn't explain the material well or go over example problems at all. Homework and tests are impossible unless you can find the solutions online.
Cons: Tangents make it hard to pay attention
He lacks any form of common sense but is easy in class. Will find out about his exams soon enough.
The only reason I passed was the TA gave out the anwsers to the exams the week before.
But... the guy isnt an asshole or anything, just goes off on crazy topics for no reason
