Cons: Doesnt know how to construct a class, Boring book.
Check attendance.
I have no idea how his rating can be so high. He's super overrated imo. His class is easy (you dont need to read the book. Just come to class and talk some bullshit. No homework). The ideal class if you want to just sit down, engage in a conversation and learn nothing. Also, a lot of movies watching.
After his class I learnt nothing at all. The class was super slow comparing to all other blaw classes that I had had. We covered 4-5 chapters for the 10 classes. The book was super boring and was written in a way that confused student rather than helping. The midterm and final were multiple choice, and the questions were more about history of some famous cases rather than legal issues. I didnt learn anything from his class.
Cons: None.
Cons: none
theres generally no homework or out of class work, he likes you to take copious notes in class so there is no out of class work. his final exam is open book and notes and worth pretty much ur whole grade and he gives you more than enough time to do the test. i would take him over and over again if i could, easily one of my top 3 favorite professors at drexel.
He let us pick if we wanted to take a midterm or just have a final. I had had him twice, once we took both, once we only had a final (open notes) - every exam was all MC and somewhat challenging, but if you go to class, take notes and pay attention you'll be fine.
He doesn't post notes online because this isn't a 101 throwaway class - the discussions in class are how you learn the information. If you dont want to have to go to class, don't take his classes.
Cons: does not post notes so if you miss class, you need to find a friend
This was an interesting well taught class. A good rounded mix of videos, student-debates, discussion and prof lecture. Used real life examples and the textbook. One of my best profs at this University.
Over all an OK guy, but don't think like a lawyer in the class. (Even though he is a lawyer and it is a Criminal Law class......)
He puts the present business world you'll graduate into with the course topic using politics, history and economics. It's not your standard gut law class, but an interesting, reality based approach to WCC and college.
White Collar Crime is perjury, tax evasion, wire fraud, mail fraud, etc., so this could be a real bore. Instead, it's focused on separate topics like corporate crime through, say, Enron, and then you extrapolate into overall corp. crimes from there.
Genetta's an entertaining and funny guy and is a trial attorney so keeping the student "jury" involved is second nature. We went to a real trial, saw a very cool documentary, had a crazy junk food demonstration with mounds of sugar and got to eat the crap too (and it made great teaching points and kept your interest too), and relived Watergate with political WCC.
Also, for me, the best thing is NO midterm or final. Just short weekly papers. They add up though and it requires lots of thinking and consistency so what at first seems like it will be easy ends up as real work. I guess since he's a lawyer, he ain't giving away grades. It's all Socratic (Q&A) like law school and about creating and thinking thru your ideas. I learned a lot about how to think clearly in this class. But minus the jerk-off attitude of so many teachers.
Do yourself a favor and take the class.
