- No homework
- Extra credit quizzes
Cons: - Quarter long group assignment
- No using your phones or electronics in class. She has helpers that walk around and will dock you points if they catch you
- Docks you points for being late
Most classes go like this. Starting the class, she plays a random video while everybody shows up. Afterwards, she begins lecturing on the chapter by going through the powerpoint slides. You take notes on a book that can be bought at the bookstore for $12 with all the slides in it. Lecture usually takes up most of the time and she releases the class when she finishes.
Tests are multiple choice. No note cards. Tip: Read the chapters in the book. Lots of the questions come from the book.
The group project is not very difficult. You must choose a company and research one of their products and all the marketing that goes behind it. Throughout the quarter your group must turn in progress reports. She's very picky about the format of the progress reports.
Offers loads of extra credit quizzes online through blackboard
two take home exams out of the 4
You get her slides from the copy n mail (about 11$)
Cons: Lectures are long and boring, but she lets you out early often.
Be sure to meet with your partners and beware of who your partners are and what is going on in the projects
Boring, try not to sleep in class
If you are a major different to anything related to marketing/accounting, she doesn't care as she expects everyone to be business majors in her class.
(I'm an art major, so who really cares about half the class, we just care about research and promotion anyway)
Do not use english essay-style writing, bullet points are key
Answers questions vaguely
Prof. Emilio is very nice
But do what she tells you for the PR's and on your larger final project.
Make sure EVERYONE's stuff is done correctly
Make sure all citations are done correctly
Be sure to do the quizzes, they're helpful
She offers lots of extra credit
Cons: You have to buy the powerpoint notes at the bookstore cause she doesn't post them. Attendance everyday of class so you have to come! No cellphones or skateboards or food or drinks. No talking or she'll take off points. NO FRIGGIN RESTROOM?!?! People still go lol. She has annoying TAs that hover and walk around as if body guarding her -_-.She's a very harsh grader! If you mess up a small part on the project, she'll give that whole section a 0!!! If you try to talk to her about it, she threatened the whole class if they tried to come argue the grades, she could have taken off more points and she will if you tried to argue. She's very mean, dull, and talks down to students. No one wants to say anything cause she makes you sound stupid! Her class is just powerpoints and somehow always lead to a story of her life experiences. It's kinda sad though, she sometimes tries to tell jokes and no one laughs at em but her so it's silent then she gets all awkward and continues to lecture.
I have never been so mad at a professor! She is so mean and unapproachable! She plays stupid useless youtube video that have nothing to do with marketing of her favorite videos like a farmer singing or american idol singer at the beginning of every class. Which is obvious how she talks about how she's in the american idol's fan club makes it obvious that she's just trying to promote and tell everyone she's a HUGE fan!!! But who cares?!?! I'm here to learn Marketing not watch youtube videos!!! She never posts the grades, only in class on the wall after exams and you have to wait in like for 10-20 mins to look at the grades. In the very end she posts the grade to broncodirect and doesn't show us our final grade and emails us saying "I will not be on campus during summer, or checking my email. If you want to contact me about grades come see me second week of fall quarter" LIKE WTF!?!?! I NEED TO TALK ABOUT MY GRADE NOW NOT WAIT A SUMMER TILL NEXT YEAR! She was the worst professor ever, being in her class everyday was torture and I barely learned. Don't take this class if Marketing is your major!
Cons: She is older and very out of touch with the subject. Her examples are out of date. Her boring lectures are straight off the powerpoint and it was the worst class I have ever taken.
Eating in class is a big NO NO. I had a 4pm-6pm class. She will call you out if you have a drink or anything.
Talking in class is a big NO NO. Unless you're answering one of her questions - but most of the time the class is dead silent.
No computers are allowed. She might let you get away with using your laptop once or twice, but then she will make a big thing telling everyone to put it away.
The room is dead silent for the whole 2 hours. It is just about the biggest waste of time because I was not even able to do other work on my computer.
She will go around the room to see if anyone is using their cell phones or laptops. Or she might have an assistant check.
For your final project - make sure you use the exact terms she wants. Even if you describe everything perfectly, she will question you if you do not say the exact terms.
She takes attendance. There is no reason to be there - the powerpoints are on blackboard, but your grade might suffer if you don't.
I recall once she told us that she pays $25 and hardly ever uses her cell phone and uses it even less during summer because nobody calls... This always stuck with me because she is a MARKETING professor. Everything is going mobile. How can she teach marketing and be so out of touch with mobile??
If you want an easy A, and have time to waste, this is the class for you. You will be bored every day, and might even fall asleep, but you can easily get an A without even paying attention.
She is a nice person, and her intentions are good, but her class was the worst I have ever had.
Professor Emilio's class is okay.. she gave a lot of extra credit. I took her in Fall 2013, there were 4 exams. The first one is take home because she said the class is behind schedule. The second exam is pretty easy while compare to the third and fourth exam. Also, the final exam was take home too. On the other hand, the group project is ok.. not that much work after divided the work into several group members. And her online quiz is extra credit too, that is a MUST to do, some of the answers can be found online. there were 8 extra credit quiz plus others she announced in class...
However, she got two TAs inher class which was annoying. They woild walk around the class during lecture, and if you talk and they see it, they would give a warning letter thing.
Grade recieved B+
A copy of all of the slides available to be purchase at the "BSC mail & print."
Cons: *IBM Majors DON'T TAKE this teacher/class!!! Don't!
Group project = I hate working with "idiots."
She is bias and is opinionated. Her way or it's WRONG! and forget what the Textbook, "Google," Society, your Mom (you get the idea) ...says, Emilio is right and EVERYONE else is wrong.
She has her Teacher Assistants do a lot of things. One annoying thing is her TAs would walk around the room during lecture and make sure we are not on our phones (I don't ever text in class anyways), this is distracting to have people wondering the room, it gets really annoying and it makes me paranoid.
She would ask for your opinion/input during class lecture and then she would be smiling and acts like she is agreeing and is interested in what you are saying, but then she will go like "NOPE, that is all wrong."
She makes us do a group project. First off I had the worst. THE WORST team mates ever. And it was because of them that my grade dropped. These people were lazy, arrogant, stubborn, lack of team work, ...the list goes on. I ended up having to do all of the work for the sake of my grade. Turns out these people were upper class men that changed their major into business because they were "too lazy" for their previous one. I am an IBM major and another guy in the group was too, he didn't disagree with everything I said. In the end I didn't listen to him because I knew for a fact he was wrong, because of that, everyone that listened to me got 100% on their part of the project.
Oh and do all of the extra credit quizzes...they help. Over all grade (sadly) "B+."
One group project: You chose a company and write a detailed outline regarding everything about that company. Your group and yourself have to present in front of the class. It's really easy and she's not that strict on grading. This project is worth around 30% of your grade so choose your group wisely. Presentation should be around 20-30 minutes.
For the broke and lazy people: Yes, you need to buy the book. OR you can just copy off a friend's test since it's take-home. She lets the class out an hour early most of the time. Attendance does count so don't ditch that often.
passionate about teaching and about the subject
Lots of extra credit
Cons: Tough grader
Needs to constantly reference the textbook/Powerpoint notes
Powerpoint notes are out of order and not numbered in a logical manner
Lots of exams
For a non-marketing student, Professor Emilio made the course moderately interesting (rather than boring) and had a lot of interesting examples for all of the concepts. I did so so on her exams because the questions are all situation-based questions where you are required to apply the concepts we learned in class and oftentimes she is pretty tricky. She does give you up to 6 extra credit points for every chapter and the quizzes are available on blackbaord for x-amount of time before they expire. The extra credit means everything in this class it can bring you up a whole letter grade in the end if you do well on them. While her quizzes are hard my advice is never miss one because the least you can do is just guess on all the questions (they're all true/false so 50/50) and get as many extra credit points as you can because its so easy to log on and just guess the whole way through.
There is one overarching project in her class. Throughout the class she'll lecture on all the concepts you need to cover in your project outline. The project is not a term paper or anything its just bullets explaining everything that she wants in the order that she wants. She is an extremely tough grader. One wrong statement you may lose the whole section's points. My group met every week at least once (as was reccomended by her) and we all worked very hard on our project thinking that by the end of it we were bound to get an A. But due to minor ordering issues, and a few false statements (that resulted from misinterpreting what she said) we got a low B. My advice is to work on your project as she lectures. She'll lecture different concepts every class and if you can meet up that week after the lectures and apply those concepts into your project you'll be sure not to miss anything she's looking for (she wants definitions for all concepts) and at the end work very very very hard to make sure that your order of all the concepts is correct because that matters. Her project is worth a hefty amount of points and it does bring down your grade quite a bit, however, with the extra credit points as padding you will be a-okay.
I would say if you are looking for a good professor, who knows her stuff this is your professor. But this class isn't an easy A either but an A is attainable. :)
Cons: Tests are somewhat confusing. THe multiple choice answers are not easy and could be either or so it is difficult to get the answers. Make sure to buy the book! forget that powerpoint book she makes you buy. just write notes. the book is what you need for the test
Organized
Practical
Cons: No Feedback
Professor Emilio is one of our very own graduates. Everything is an easy A if you read the book thoroughly and truly understand the concept behind each marketing principle. You'll be amazed to find that all the answers on the quizzes all seem to be right. When this happens, it shows you just read once to get by. Pay attention when you read and you will do fine. The hardest thing in this class was the final project. Just remember, forget what every other professor told you about writing papers. In this paper, define everything! She won't say you're filling the paper with fluff and BS because she wants to see that YOU understand marketing. It's very hands on. I failed my project because I had Bohon for political science, who drilled us with our writing assignments on how to "remove your voice and establish a clear argument" in an editorial. Just know, you might be frustrated at some of the grades you get, but keep in mind that marketing is marketing, english is english, and political science is political science. Don't try to blend your strengths in one field into another, adapt. If you ever find yourself in a rut academically, just stop and tell yourself that you can do exceptionally well. Finding a strong drive really makes a good comeback. I learned that pretty fast and walked out with an A.
