Cal State Northridge students should consider getting renters insurance because it can provide protection for their personal belongings, liability coverage, and additional living expenses in case their apartment or dorm room is damaged or destroyed by fire, theft, or other covered events. Renters insurance can also help students recover the cost of their losses in case of a covered event.

It's worth noting that while CSU Northridge does not mandate renters insurance, the university does recommend that students consider purchasing it. In their off-campus housing resources page, they state that "The California State University recommends that students living off-campus obtain renters' insurance to protect themselves in cases of theft, fire, or other types of damage to their personal belongings."
