As a lifeguard, you must possess the following skills:
Comfortable in and around open water with basic safety knowledge
Able to navigate deep water and use watercraft like surfboards, paddleboards, and kayaks
Capable of passing lifeguard prerequisite exam (such as a 550-meter open water swim and treading water for 2 minutes without hands)
Experience working with or teaching children is preferred
Red Cross Certification or WSI certification is preferred but not required
Must be 18 years or older
