Personal Statement

I have a B.A. Degree from Capital University, a Certificate in Writing from Oxford University, and am currently taking Education classes at UCLA towards a TESOL Certificate. As a teacher I have worked with a vast array of kids and adults, both privately and in academic settings: elementary, middle, high school, continuation, adult school, and as a guest lecturer at the college level. In addition to academic study, I have also taught chess (both privately and in classes) to students from ages 4 to 87. I currently teach “Improv and Creativity for Teamwork” at LA’s Homeboy Industries; this comprehensive class brings together my improv training at Second City with physical activities, brainstorming concepts, literature, lessons from history, and inspiration from many sources. In addition to my love of teaching, I am thrilled to be able to offer you the range of my career experience in other areas as well! In business I have worked in the fields of sales, marketing, and public relations, and as a news reporter for a wire service. I have written feature stories for the L.A. Times and the Huffington Post, and for other consumer and business trade publications. In the entertainment field, I have written screenplays honored in competitions, and written and produced an award-winning short film. I also write for Flash Films International, a YouTube channel for writers, directors, and creatives.
