Job Description
The Montessori School of Washington is a small, nurturing school for 2 - 6-year-old, located in the
Georgetown/Palisades neighborhood of Washington, DC. We seek a credentialed Montessori Primary Teacher/Asst Director who embraces the Montessori philosophy, respects the whole child, and can plan and implement a Montessori Primary Curriculum. The candidate will work as a Lead Teacher with an Assistant Teacher, in a classroom of children aged 3 - 6 years old. The position is full-time from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm. Aftercare is from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Job Description
Qualifications: The Lead Montessori teacher should have AMI or AMS diploma for the level in which they teach and a four - year college degree. Good interpersonal skills are necessary. The teacher should have the ability to work not only with children but with parents and other staff members as well. A positive and open attitude toward all children is a requirement.
Job Responsibilities:
• Responsible for preparation of the classroom environment, materials, and equipment; ensures that all materials are in good repair, and all sets complete. Develops and makes materials when needed.
• Plan and implement the Montessori curriculum. Give appropriate presentations and establish a record keeping system to track the children’s progress.
• Supervise the classroom assistant, aide, interns, substitutes, and parent volunteers. Provide necessary
instruction and training for those assisting in the classroom environment.
• Promote good communication among staff members.
• Facilitate a respectful environment for children and adults by advocating conflict resolution and Grace and
Courtesy lessons.
• Facilitate new parent orientation and parents/teachers’ conferences and come up with ideas to increase enrollment
• Ensure respectful and open lines of communication with parents. Be available to parents through written
communication, setting up conferences, and educating parents in Montessori philosophy.
• Plan and host Parent Education events at least twice a year.
• Ensures that the general classroom area, staircase, and primary restrooms are clean.
• Assess prospective children when they visit the school.
• Provide first aid as needed and complete appropriate forms for parents.
• Ensure that the staff and children’s folders are up to date.
• Comply with all continuing education requirements and be a community leader responsible for the school in the absence of an Administrator.
