As coaches, Jill and Dave have counseled many of their high school athletes about how to navigate the health challenges they will face in the college environment. Jill and Dave shared some of their personal stories as well advice about how students can manage everything from “food, booze, stress, sex, sleep and exercise.” You will enjoy listening to their energy and good humor and you’ll definitely want to share their book with your student.

In this episode we had a wonderful conversation with Jill and Dave Henry about the health concerns of college students and how they put together the book that college students would want to read. We had a lot of fun talking with them and we learned some important things about students and their health. You’ll enjoy listening to their stories and you’ll hear some guidance for how to talk to your student about some of these topics.
Jill and Dave’s book, The Greatest College Health Guide: You Never Knew You Needed, is a wonderful resource for students heading to college. They remind us that we need to reframe health conversations for students. There is so much sage advice here.

We asked Jill and Dave if there are any other books they would recommend for parents to read and they suggested two.
The first book they recommended for parents is call Thrivers: The Surprising Reasons Why Some Kids Struggle and Others Shine, by Michele Borba. This will help parents understand how they can help their student thrive.
The second book that Jill and Dave suggested is called The Ultimate College Student Health Guide by Dr. Jill Grimes. This book makes an excellent companion to Jill and Dave’s book. Both books provide essential information for students in different formats. You may want to send your student off to college with both books.
